Kociemba medalist at Spring Break meet

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Joel Kociemba (SR, Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) earned medalist honors with a round of 78, leading the Augsburg College men's golf team to a second-place team finish at a triangular meet with Denison University (Ohio) and Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) on Wednesday at the Barefoot Resort and Golf's Fazio Course.

Kociemba was one of just two players with scores in the 70s in the 17-golfer field, earning his first medalist honor of his career and his third top-10 finish of the season. As a team, Augsburg finished second with a 347 total, behind Denison's 339 and ahead of Stevens' 376.

Brian Deuel (JR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) shot an 81 to finish fourth, while Tucker Williams (JR, Roseville, Minn.) shot 90 to tie for sixth. Jason Henning (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Tim Herrmann (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.) each shot 98. Competing as individuals, Cole Stoney (FY, Lancaster, Wis.) shot 92 and Alex Umland (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) shot 94.

Augsburg returns to action on the weekend of April 3-4, competing at the Loras (Iowa) Invitational.
