2011 AHCA/REEBOK HOCKEY DIVISION III ALL-AMERICANS
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's hockey forward
Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association/Reebok Hockey Division III All-America Team as a second-team West Region honoree, it was announced on Thursday.
Sauer is the 33rd Augsburg men's hockey player to earn All-American honors in school history, and the fourth under head coach
Chris Brown. It's the third year in a row that Augsburg has had an All-American selection in men's hockey, and the sixth honoree in the last eight seasons.
The award is the latest in a season of honors for Sauer, who was named to the All-MIAC squad for the second straight year, after earning All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2009.
Sauer finished the 2010-11 season as the MIAC's scoring champion,
leading the league in overall points (39) and
points in conference games-only (24). Sauer tied for the league lead in overall assists (25) and was fourth in overall goals (14), while in league play, he stood third in assists (15) and fifth in goals (9).
Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Sauer finished 12th in points per-game (1.50) and 12th in assists per-game (0.96). He had a goal or assist in 23 of Augsburg's 26 games this season, including a late-season streak of 10 games in a row. In 100 career games, Sauer finished with 52 goals and 57 assists for 109 career points.
The AHCA/Reebok Hockey All-American Teams are sponsored by Reebok Hockey, an international leader in hockey equipment, and are chosen by AHCA members. A total of 30 players were chosen -- three teams from the East Region and two teams from the West Region.
Augsburg finished the 2010-11 season with a 14-9-3 overall record and 8-6-2 record in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. In Brown's fifth year as head coach, the Auggies reached the MIAC postseason playoffs for the third straight year and fourth time in the last five seasons.
