MIAC MEN'S GOLF ATHLETES OF WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's golfer
Joel Kociemba (SR, Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
The top Auggie golfer all season long, Kociemba shot a two-day 154 to tie for 11th place at the competitive Loras (Iowa) Spring Invitational on April 4-5, shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the first round of the event. The 154 total was just a stroke from his season-best 153, which he shot at the Augsburg Fall Invitational on Sept. 11-12.
Last Thursday, Kociemba shot a 2-under-par 69 to lead Augsburg at the "Auggie-Royal Cup," a match-play event with Bethel University, the low score of the event, as Augsburg scored a 23-13 victory over the Royals.
On the season, Kociemba has a team-best 77.1 stroke average and a team-leading .800 winning percentage (527-132). He has placed in the top 10 in three of his eight events this season, and has scored in the 70s in 14 of his 17 competitive rounds this season. His 77.1 stroke average ranks 21st among MIAC men's golfers this season.
Augsburg returns to action on Thursday (4/14), competing at the Wisconsin-Stout Border Battle in Menomonie, Wis.
