ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Alec Johnson (JR, Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Forest Lake HS),
Trent Anderson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) and
Adam Seaman (JR, Richfield, Minn.) had three hits apiece in the doubleheader, leading Augsburg College in two close losses to the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Koch Diamond.
Augsburg (9-16 overall, 4-8 MIAC) was edged 8-7 in the first game, and fell 3-1 to St. Thomas (15-13 overall, 8-4 MIAC) in the second game.
In the first game, Augsburg rallied to take the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but St. Thomas scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win in the back-and-forth game.
Augsburg opened with a four-run fourth inning, collecting six hits while sending 10 batters to the plate. Seaman had an RBI double, while
Tom Petersen (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS),
Mason Holmquist (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) and
Brent Kolbow (SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) all had RBi singles.
But St. Thomas took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring five runs. Augsburg tied the game in the sixth, as Anderson doubled and scored on a Kolbow RBI single, but the Tommies answered back with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Auggies took the lead again in the top of the seventh, with
Zach Pavlisick (SO, Phoenix, Ariz./Central HS) doubling home a run and Holmquist driving in a run on a sacrifice. But the Tommies took advantage of an error to tie the game on an unearned run, and scored the game-winner on a one-out single by Matt McQuillian.
Kolbow, Petersen, Johnson and Anderson had two hits each for the Auggies in the first game, while Taylor Rahm and Tim Kuzniar had three hits each for St. Thomas.
In the second game, the Tommies claimed the win despite only collecting four base hits in the game against Augsburg's
Adam Jacobsen (SR, Wayzata, Minn./Orono HS), who struck out four while walking three in a complete-game effort. Just one of the three runs charged to him was earned.
Augsburg's lone run came in the thrd inning, as
John Demgen (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) scoredon a two-out single by Seaman. Seaman and
Lou LaChapelle (SO, Eagan, Minn.) had two hits each for the Auggies.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (4/23) at 1 p.m., hosting St. John's at Parade Stadium.
