Auggies win in suspended game

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Shayna Crandall (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) went 4-for-5 at the plate with six RBI and two runs scored, while striking out four in 6.1 innings of pitching, as the Augsburg College softball team scored a 15-12 win over Hamline University in the resumption of a suspended game on Friday afternoon at Helen Meredith Field.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest was suspended due to darkness on April 19, with Augsburg leading 11-10 after five innings. Augsburg (19-19 overall, 8-12 MIAC) scored four runs in the top of the seventh, while Hamline (14-16 overall, 8-8 MIAC) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Crandall hit a two-run double as part of a five-run first inning for the Auggies, then singled in a run in the second inning, singled another run in the fifth and drove in two runs on a single in the seventh. In the pitching circle, she threw 6.1 innings, striking out four while walking five and allowing nine hits.

Jessa Hinz (SR, Richfield, Minn.) hit a solo home run for the Auggies in the third inning, as part of a 3-for-5, two-RBI day. Kelsey Rorabeck (SO, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) hit two doubles and drove in two runs while scoring twice. Bri Dorale (SO, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had three hits and scored three runs, and Jennifer Castillo (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) hit a double and scored two runs.

Erin Farley went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs for Hamline, while Kelsey Tacheny hit a two-run homer and scored three runs.

Augsburg closes its season on Saturday (4/30) at 1 p.m. with a MIAC doubleheader at Concordia-Moorhead.
