MIAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second straight week, Augsburg College's
Kylee Persing (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) earned Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week honors, it was announced on Monday.
Persing has been one of the keys to Augsburg's 10-game winning streak, as the Auggies stand at 13-7 overall, 2-0 in MIAC play. Pitching in three of Augsburg's four wins during the past week, Persing compiled two complete-game victories, a 1.50 earned-run average and a two-inning save.
Persing pitched a four-hit shutout in Augsburg's 8-0, five-inning win over Northwestern-Roseville on Thursday, striking out six while walking two. She then pitched two innings of scoreless relief to score the save in the Auggies' 5-3, second-game victory. In Augsburg's conference-opener against St. Catherine on Saturday, Persing threw a complete-game victory in the first game, a 5-4 win, striking out one while walking one. Persing also helped her own cause at the plate, with a solo home run in each game of Augsburg's doubleheader sweep of the Wildcats.
So far this season in the pitching circle, Persing is 10-5 with a 2.64 ERA in 18 pitching appearances (15 starts), with 10 complete games in 92.2 innings. She has 50 strikeouts against 33 walks and a .273 opponent batting average. She leads the MIAC in overall victories, while standing second in strikeouts and fourth in ERA. At the plate, Persing is hitting .333 (16-of-48), with 12 RBI, two doubles, four home runs, a .625 slugging percentage and a .418 on-base percentage.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Tuesday (4/5) at 4 p.m., hosting St. Thomas at Edor Nelson Field.
