GAME 1 BOXSCORE | GAME 2 BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS --
Tom Petersen (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) went 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and two runs batted in, leading the Augsburg College baseball team in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader split with Carleton College on Thursday at Parade Stadium.
Petersen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in Augsburg's (11-22 overall, 6-14 MIAC) 8-5 win in the first game, and 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI in the second game, a 12-6 Carleton (11-22 overall, 5-13 MIAC) victory.
In the first game, Augsburg rallied from a 3-0, first-inning deficit with a four-run first inning, and the Auggies led from that point on. Augsburg sent eight batters to the plate and scored on two hits with two errors. In the third inning, Augsburg scored two more runs on an RBI double by
Trent Anderson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) and an RBI single by
Adam Carl (FY, Eagan, Minn.).
Augsburg scored twice in the fifth inning, as Johnson plated a run on a fielder's choice and Anderson drove in a run on his second sacrifice fly of the game.
Pitching in relief, Augsburg's
Kristofer Ozga (SR, Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson HS) earned the victory, not allowing a hit while striking out two and walking three in 3.2 innings of work.
In addition to Petersen's 2-for-3 effort,
Lou LaChapelle (SO, Eagan, Minn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Carl went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Anderson drove in three runs in the game.
In the second game, Augsburg overcame a 2-0, first-inning deficit with a four-run bottom of the first, scoriing all the runs without a hit -- on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, a bases-loaded walk and two RBI groundouts.
But Carleton rallied with three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead, then after two Auggie runs came across in the sixth inning, the Knights pulled away for good with a five-run seventh frame, sending 10 batters to the plate.
Danny Shields claimed the pitching win for Carleton, with six innings of relief, allowing just one earned run. Erik Fabry went 4-for-6 at the plate for Carleton with two runs scored and four RBI. Ray Yong was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI.
The doubleheader marked the final collegiate games for nine Augsburg seniors -- Ozga,
