Luger scores career-high 16 to lead Augsburg to victory

BOXSCORE NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Abbey Luger (FY, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 61-58 thrilling victory over Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday night at West Gymnasium.

Connecting on 5-of-9 from the field, Luger doubled her previous career-high scoring effort to lead Augsburg (8-6 overall, 5-6 MIAC) to the win. Luger also added a career-high six rebounds and two blocked shots on the evening. Also scoring in double-figures for Augsburg was Brittany Dyshaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS). Dyshaw scored 13 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Levine scored 15 points and added three steals.

Carleton (2-12 overall, 1-10 MIAC) was led by the duo of Akemi Arzouman and Skylar Tsutsui, who finished with 16 and 14 points respectively.

In what proved to be a game of runs, Augsburg claimed the most important one, a 12-4 run to end the game and earn the thrilling MIAC victory.

After Carleton scored the first 10 points of the contest the Auggies had to battle back. Augsburg used a key 14-1 run to close the half and give the Auggies a 27-24 lead at the break.

There were 10 lead changes and six tied scores in a thrilling second half of basketball. After trailing 53-49 with 3:49 to play, the Auggies were able to put together the final run of the game and claim the 61-58 hard-faught win over the Knights.

For the game, Augsburg shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the floor, while Carleton connected on 39.6 percent (19-of-48) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a narrow 36-35 advantage on the boards, while the Augsburg bench outscored the Carleton bench 25-13.

Augsburg and Carleton both return to action on Wednesday (1/18) with the Auggies hosting the College of Saint Benedict, while the Knights host Saint Mary's University.
