ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) cut over 25 seconds off her previous season-best time in the 1,650 yard freestyle to lead the Augsburg College women's swimming and diving team with an eighth-place finish at the St. Catherine University Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Butler Center. As a team, the Auggies finished in eighth-place with 135.0 team points.
Hlavac, earned her eighth-place finish in the 1,650 with a 20:57.84 clocking. The time is good for the 10th-fastest time in school history. Hlavac now owns five of the top-10 times in school history in the event. Hlavac also recorded a pair of 12th-place finishes, competing individually in the 200-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle. In the 200 back, she finished with a time of 2:37.47 and she recorded a season-best 6:00.02 clocking in the 500 freestyle.
Abby Novak (JR, Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East HS) also had a strong day for the Auggies, recording three season-best times. She finished 22nd in the 200-yard backstroke with 2:44.16 clocking, 34th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.91) and 36th in the 50-yard freestyle (28.58).
Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) recorded a 12-place finish for the Auggies in the 400-yard IM with a 5:48.94 clocking, finished 16th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14,40) and 19th in the 200-yard IM (2:36.38).
In the relays, Hlavac,
Samantha Hebzynski (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS),
Elizabeth Hilgendorf (FY, Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk HS) and Royce teammed up in the 200-yard medley to record an 11th-place finish with a time of 2:12.86. In the 400-yard freestyle relay,
Kayla Mitchell (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Insight School of Minnesota),
Bre Kirch (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS), Royce and Hilgendorf combined for an 11th-place finish with a 4:23.72 clocking.
Also competing for Augsburg was
Dustina Granlund (SO, St. Paul, Minn.), who competed in the 50-yard freestyle (39.60), 100-yard backstroke (2:12.62) and 100-yard frestyle (1:33.29).
Augsburg returns to action next Friday-Saturday (2/3-4) when they compete in the Minnesota Challenge at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
