MIAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College sprinter
Ashley Carney (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
In Augsburg's season-opening meet at the
Wisconsin-Stout Warren Bowlus Open on Saturday, Carney claimed a victory in the women's 60-meter dash, with her 7.87-second time a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Her time is the
fastest among MIAC sprinters and is currently tied for 14th-fastest
among NCAA Division III women nationally.
In her Auggie career, Carney has earned All-MIAC honors four times and All-MIAC honorable-mention honors once. Carney has been part of relay squads that have captured three conference championships, and she also competed at the NCAA Division III national championships in 2010 as part of the outdoor 400-meter relay squad.
Augsburg returns to action this Saturday (2/4) at the Bethel University Invitational.
