Auggies compete at Citrus Classic

RESULTS

MESA, Ariz. -- Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS), Elizabeth Hilgendorf (FY, Tomahawk, Wis.) and Bre Kirch (FY, Waunakee, Wis.) all swam collegiate-best times on Saturday, leading the Augsburg College women's swimming team at the Citrus Classic on Saturday at the Kino Aquatic Center.

Royce swam a 2:15.18 time in the 200-yard freestyle, while Hilgendorf produced a 27.60-second effort in the 50-yard freestyle, and Kirch swam a 7:01.36 time in the 500-yard freestyle.

Augsburg's 400-yard freestyle relay of Royce, Abby Novak (JR, Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East HS), Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) and Hilgendorf produced a 4:21.85 time for an eighth-place finish, the eighth-fastest time in the event in school history.

Augsburg swimmers competed in seven events as the only NCAA Division III program in the six-team meet, which featured four Division I schools (Wyoming, New Hampshire, Mount St. Mary's (Md.) and Colorado) and Division II California University (Pa.).

Elianna Bier (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) had the best individual placing for the Auggies, with a 14th-place, 1:14.79 finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Hlavac placed 15th for the Auggies in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:30.34, with Kirch placing 17th.

Hilgendorf's 27.60-second time was good for 16th in the 50-yard freestyle, while Novak placed 21st with a 29.47-second time. Royce placed 23rd in the 200-yard freestyle, and Samantha Hebzynski (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.) placed 24th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:25.40.

Augsburg's 400-yard medley relay "A" squad of Bier, Hilgendorf, Kayla Mitchell (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Insight School of Minnesota) placed eighth in 4:55.92, with the "B" squad of Novak, Hebzynski, Hlavac and Kirch placed ninth in 5:19.28. The Augsburg "B" squad for the 400-yard freestyle relay, Bier, Hebzynski, Kirch and Mitchell, placed ninth in 4:46.06.

Augsburg returns to action on Jan. 21, competing at the Wisconsin-Stevens Point Invitational.
