2012 MIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER AWARDS
MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Augsburg College women's soccer players earned honors from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for their play during the 2012 season, it was recently announced.
Earning All-MIAC honors were forward
Bri Clark (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and midfielder
Molly Allen (SO, Stillwater, Minn.). Midfielder
Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) and defender
Alekzandra Miller (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors, with Dorale also being named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
It's the second straight All-MIAC honor for Clark, who was also named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-North Region third team in 2011. It's the second straight All-MIAC honorable-mention honor for Dorale, and the first all-conference honor for both Allen and Miller.
Clark led the Auggies in scoring, with team-highs of eight goals and 22 points, while standing second on the team in assists with six. In the MIAC's overall statistics, Clark was tied for fourth among conference players in total points, tied for sixth in goals and tied for seventh in assists. She had a goal or assist in 11 of her 19 games played this season.
Clark claimed three game-winning goals this season -- in a 1-0 win at Wisconsin-River Falls on Sept. 24, a 1-0 win at Gustavus on Oct. 13, and in a 3-0 home win over Hamline on Oct. 19. She also had both Augsburg goals in a 3-2 loss to Loras (Iowa) on Sept. 14, a goal and assist in a 6-0 win at Bethany Lutheran on Sept. 6 and a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Grinnell (Iowa) on Sept. 8. In her 61-game Augsburg career, Clark finished with 24 goals (fifth-most in school history) and nine assists for 57 points (fifth-most in school history).
Allen recorded 11 assists this season, the third-most in a single season in Augsburg history, and a total that was third-best among MIAC players this season and 31st among NCAA Division III players nationally. In her 38 career games, she already has 13 assists, the 11th-best total in school history.
Allen claimed at least one assist in nine of her 20 games this season, including two assists in Augsburg's 3-2 loss to Loras on Sept. 14 and two assists in a 2-0 win over St. Mary's on Oct. 27.
Dorale claimed four goals and an assist for nine points this season, standing tied for third on the team in goals and sixth in points. She had three goals in the final five games of the season, including a goal and assist in Augsburg's 2-1 overtime win at St. Olaf in the MIAC playoff semifinals. In her 74-game career, Dorale finished with six goals and 10 assists (12th in school history) for 22 points.
Dorale was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
Miller was one of the leaders of an Augsburg defense that allowed just 16 goals this season, tied for the second-fewest among MIAC teams this season. She had two assists as well this season, and has competed in 53 games in her Auggie career.
Under 14th-year head coach
Mike Navarre, Augsburg finished 12-5-3 overall, 6-3-2 in MIAC play in 2012, earning a trip to the MIAC postseason playoffs for the first time since 2007. Augsburg's 12 wins are the second-most in a single season in school history. This season, Augsburg reached the MIAC playoff championship game for the first time in its five trips to the MIAC playoffs.
