USTFCCCA DIVISION III MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's cross country student-athlete
Micheale Tesema (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division III Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team, it was announced recently.
Tesema is an undecided major at Augsburg with a 3.3333 grade-point average. To earn inclusion on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a grade-point average of 3.30 or above, while also placing in the top 35 at their NCAA regional cross country meet.
Tesema had a breakout campaign for the Auggies in 2011, as the team's top-finishing runner in six of the seven races this season. He recorded three 8,000-meter personal-best times this season, including a 26:05 time at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, where he placed 14th to earn All-MIAC honors. The 26:05 time reflected a 41-second improvement in his 8,000-meter time from his previous personal best in 2010.
He earned all-region honors with a 26th-place, 26:08 finish at the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Wartburg (Iowa). He finished among the top 50 runners at each of his six 8,000-meter events this season, including a second-place finish at the Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational and a 13th-place finish at the St. Olaf Invitational.
Tesema also competes on Augsburg's track and field team.
