BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team suffered a hard-fought 56-49 loss to Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall. With the loss, the Auggies fall to 12-10 overall (9-10 MIAC), while the Scots improve to 10-12 overall (8-11 MIAC).
Augsburg finished with three players in double-figures, led by 
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS), who finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. 
Abbey Luger (FY, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) and 
Brittany Zins (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS), scored a team-high 13 points apiece, while Zins added six rebounds and Luger pulled down four boards.
Macalester was led by the duo of Jessica Rene and Holly Schiedermayer, who both finished with a game-high 21 points. Schiedermayer finished a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and added a game-high nine rebounds.
The Auggies outshot the Scots in the first-half and were able to take a 24-19 lead into the locker room at the intermission. Zins connected on a three-pointer to start the second-half and give the Auggies an eight point lead but Macalester scored the next seven points to pull it back within one. The two teams traded baskets as well as leads for the majority of the half and were knoted up 49-49 with 2:17 to play. The Scots scored the final seven points of the game to steal the win from the Auggies.
For the game, Augsburg shot 34.5 percent (10-of-26) from the field, while Macalester connected on 43.2 percent (19-of-44) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a 38-36 advantage on the boards, while both team finished with identical totals in assists (16), turnovers (19) and steals (11). The big difference in the game came at the free-throw line where Macalester was able to hit 13-of-24, while Augsburg was only able to convert 5-of-10.
Augsburg and Macalester both return to MIAC action on Saturday (2/11), with the Auggies traveling down to Winona to take on Saint Mary's Universtiy while Macalester plays host to Gustavus Adolphus College. The Auggies lost 57-49 to the Cardinals earlier in the season and will be looking to revenge the loss in a key MIAC series as both teams continue to battle for one of the six MIAC playoff positions.
