Auggie Dome Tournament

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 | BOXSCORE 3 | BOXSCORE 4 The Augsburg College softball team is hosting its annual Auggie Dome Tournament this Friday and Saturday (3/2-3) under the "bubble" at Edor Nelson Field.

Saturday, March 3:

Wisconsin-La Crosse 8, Hamline 2 -- GAME 2 BOX


Wisconsin-La Crosse (7-1) collected 19 hits on Saturday afternoon to claim a doubleheader sweep of Hamline University (0-4), winning 3-0 and 8-2.

Lacey Probst (SR, Menasha, Wis.) and Lauren Beres (JR, New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower HS) combined for the pitching shutout in the first game, with Probst striking out four in the first game and Berens pitching a scoreless seventh inning for the save. The two switched roles in the second game, with Beres striking out five in four innings of work to claim the win, with Probst striking out six of the 13 batters she faced in three innings to net the save.

The Eagles scored twice in the first inning of the first game, behind a run-scoring double by Katie Keyes (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon HS) and a run-scoring single by Kelli Anderson (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS). Keyes hit her second double of the game, a ground-rule double, to drive in a run in the fifth inning. Keyes and Lindsey Sheehan (FY, Shakopee, Minn.) had two hits each for the Eagles.

In the second game, the Eagles pounded out 10 hits to claim the win. Three runs came across in the third inning, including a two-run double by Keyes. Three more runs came across in the fifth, keyed by RBI singles by Anderson and Probst, and two runs scored in the sixth, on a single by Sheehan and bases-loaded walk.

Katie Fink (SO, Kaukauna, Wis.) and Sheehan had two hits each for the Eagles in the second game, with Keyes and Anderson contributing two RBIs each.

For the Pipers, Bethany Hine (JR, Carver, Minn./Chaska HS) had five hits in eight at-bats with an RBI, including a 4-for-4 effort with a run scored and RBI in the second game. Lauren Clouston (SO, Lisle, Ill./Naperville North HS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game, and Samantha Mau (FY, Oakdale, Minn./Avalon HS) hit a double.

Brianna Vela (SO, Kenosha, Wis./Bradford HS) struck out three while walking two in a complete-game pitching effort in the first game for the Pipers, while Clouston claimed two strikeouts with five walks in the second game.

Saturday, March 3:

Luther (Iowa, 4-0), the No. 3-ranked team in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national poll, collected 30 hits in its doubleheader sweep of host Augsburg (2-4). The Norse claimed 11 hits, scoring four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning, to claim the 7-0 victory in the first game. Luther rallied from a 6-0, second-inning deficit to rally for the 13-6 victory in the second game.

Pitcher Becca Girvan (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) picked up both pitching victories, throwing 12.1 scoreless innings, striking out 22 while walking four and allowing seven hits. In the first game, Girvan claimed 13 strikeouts while walking three and allowing four hits, and in the second game, she pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out nine while walking one and allowing three hits, to claim the win.

Allison Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) led the Auggies in the doubleheader, going 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored, hitting a solo home run in the first inning of the second game. Bekka Kelly (FY, Columbia Heights, Minn.) and Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had two hits each for the Auggies in the doubleheader.

Augsburg scored five runs in the second inning of the second game, with a two-run double by Kelly and a three-run home run by Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS), her third homer of the season.

Newcomer Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) pitched in relief for the Auggies in both games, striking out three while not walking a batter in 6.2 innings of work.

Friday, March 2:

Luther (Iowa, 2-0), the No. 3-ranked team in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national poll, pounded out 25 hits to claim the doubleheader sweep of Hamline (Minn., 0-2). Both games were shortened by the NCAA eight-run rule, the first in six innings and the second in five innings.

Abby Christian (SR, Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk HS) went 5-for-6 at the plate in the doubleheader for the Norse, driving in four runs and scoring four runs. She hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning of the first game, had a run-scoring single in the first inning and a run-scoring double in the third inning.

Kelsey Kittelson (SR, St. Ansgar, Iowa) and Paige Comentino (SR, Nora Springs, Iowa) had four hits each for the Norse in the doubleheader, with Kittleson scoring three runs, while driving in two and hitting a double.

Morgan Franklin (JR, Mitchellville, Iowa/Southeast Polk HS) drove in five runs for the Norse in the second game, hitting a grand-slam homer in the first inning and connecting on a run-scoring double in the fourth inning. Shari Huber (JR, Eldridge. Iowa/North Scott HS) drove in four runs for the Norse in the first game, including a three-run double.

Becca Girvan (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) pitched a complete-game win in the first game, striking out eight while allowing four walks and four hits. Kelsey Rose (FY, Bettendorf, Iowa) picked up the second-game shutout win, striking out four while walking two and allowing four hits.

For Hamline, Bethany Hine (JR, Carver, Minn./Chaska HS) had five hits in six at-bats, scoring a run and contributing a double. She went 3-for-3 with a double and run scored in the first game and 2-for-3 in the second game. Laura Randall (JR, Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) had two hits for the Pipers, while Jackie Brigl (JR, Roseville, Minn.) drove in a run on a single for teh Pipers. Jenna Dushaw had the other Piper RBI in the first game.

Lauren Clouston (SO, Lisle, Ill./Naperville North HS) took the pitching loss for the Pipers in the first game, striking out two, while Brianna Vela (SO, Kenosha, Wis./Bradford HS) had a strikeout in pitching the second game.

Friday, March 2:

Wisconsin-La Crosse claimed a walk-off victory in the first game, with Katie Keyes (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon HS) hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Eagles (5-1) the 5-2 win over Augsburg (2-2).

The Auggies took the early lead, when Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) hit her first collegiate home run to lead off the third inning, a towering shot to right field. Wisconsin-La Crosse took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third, as Keyes drove in a run on a single and Lindsey Sheehan (FY, Shakopee, Minn.) scored on a wild pitch. The Auggies tied the game in the top of the sixth inning, as Kelsey Rorabeck (JR, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) walked and came around to score on a throwing error.

Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) pitched for Augsburg, striking out three while allowing six walks and five hits. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate, as did Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.). Mary Hildestad (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Auggies.

Lacey Probst (SR, Menasha, Wis.) picked up the pitching win in the first game for the Eagles, striking out five while allowing one walk and seven hits. Keyes went 3-for-4 at the plate, with a double and her game-winning homer, driving in four of the five Eagle runs.

In the second game, Wisconsin-La Crosse pitcher Lauren Beres (JR, New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower HS) pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out nine while not walking a batter and allowing just two Augsburg hits. Fifty-five of her 75 pitches in the game were strikes, and she retired the final 11 batters in a row to finish the game.

Augsburg pitcher Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.), making her first start as an Auggie, pitched a complete-game effort, striking out one while not walking a batter. Just two of the eight runs charged to her were earned in the game.

The Eagles scored twice in the first inning and plated single runs in the third and fifth, before scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning to end the game early via the NCAA eight-run rule. Katie Fink (SO, Kaukauna, Wis.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Probst also hit a two-run double for the Eagles, and Alie Meyer (SO, Wausau, Wis./East HS) went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Augsburg's hits came from Dorale, on a single in the first inning, and from Eaton, on a single in the third inning.
