Stephanie Saxe (JR, Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS) went 3-for-5 and recorded a double and a run scored, but the Augsburg College softball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg (8-14 overall, 1-3 MIAC) dropped the first game to No. 25-ranked St. Thomas (17-5 overall, 4-0 MIAC) by a score of 4-2, before falling in game two of the twinbill 4-1.
Saxe recorded three hits and scored a run to lead the Auggie offensive attack. With her 3-for-5 performance at the plate in the doubleheader, Saxe raised her season batting average by 39 points to .275 on the season.
Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for Augsburg in both games, as she struck out four and walked three in 11.1 innings of work.
Mary Hildestad (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) went 2-3 for Augsburg in the second game and scored a run, while
Bekka Kelly (Columbia Heights, Minn.),
Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS),
Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) and
Emily Smith (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) each recorded hits for the Auggies in the second game.
Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored for Augsburg in the first game.
For St. Thomas, pitcher Kendra Bowe (FY, Chippewa Falls, Wis.) pitched a complete game seven-hitter to pick up the win in the first game, and pitched 1.1 innings to earn the save in the second game.
The Auggies return to action this Friday (4/5) at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on Macalester College in a MIAC doubleheader.
