Augsburg College wrestler Mike Fuenffinger (FY, Hibbing, Minn.) will be competing this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in Iowa City, Iowa, competing in the 55-kilogram (121-pound) division in Greco-Roman competition.

Competition in the 55-kg Greco-Roman weight class is on Saturday (4/21) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 6-to-9 p.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. There are 10 competitors in the 55-kg Greco-Roman weight class. In the most recent USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Senior national rankings (Nov. 22, 2011), Fuenffinger was ranked No. 9 nationally in the 55-kg class.

Fuenffinger competed during the fall 2011 semester at the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University in Greco-Roman training, then transferred to Augsburg and joined the Auggies for the spring 2012 semester.

In his first season of collegiate competition, Fuenffinger qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships at 125 pounds by placing second at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. He finished 14-9 in his first Augsburg season with two pins, a technical fall and two major decisions.

According to a USA Wrestling release on TheMat.com, the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials will be webcast this weekend via the NBCOlympics.com website, with action from all four mats during each day. Highlights from the trials will also be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network (click here for TheMat.com release for broadcast times).
