TOURNAMENT RESULTS

LE SUEUR, Minn. -- Zach Johnson (JR, Sartell, Minn.) shot a career-best three-round total of 219, leading the Augsburg College men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Gustavus Adolphus College Bobby Krig Invitational, held Sunday and Monday.

Johnson shot a collegiate career-best 71 in the first round on Sunday at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. He finished with rounds of 75 and 73 in Monday's action at the Le Sueur Country Club.

Johnson's career-best 219 total, good for a tie for ninth place in the 96-player field, was the lowest 54-hole score for an Augsburg men's golfer since Tony Vanyo shot a 219 total at the 2008 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 4-6, 2008. His opening-round 71 was the best for an Auggie since Joel Kociemba shot a 70 at the second round of the Culver's Edgewood Invitational on Sept. 3-4, 2010.

As a team, Augsburg finished with a three-round total of 914 (300-311-303) to place seventh in the 13-school, 16-team event. The 914 score marked the team's lowest 54-hole total since a 909 total in the Gustavus Bobby Krig Invitational on April 19-20, 2010. Augsburg's first-round 300 is the team's lowest single-round total since a 297 score in the opening round of the 2010 Gustavus Bobby Krig Invitational. Its 303 round is the second-lowest score of this season, and the 311 round is the ninth-lowest round of the season.

Two other Auggies recorded collegiate career-best 54-hole rounds at the meet. Brian Deuel (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) finished with a career-best 226 (74-75-77) total to finish in a tie for 24th place, and Terry Gibbons (SR, Westlake, Ohio) shot a career-best 236 (76-84-76) to place 49th. Gibbons' first- and third-round 76 scores marked his career-best single-round scores.

Competing in their first career 54-hole events, Eric Aughinbaugh (SO, Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) shot a 234 total (79-78-77) to finish in a tie for 45th, while Ryan Lundeen (FY, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) shot 250 (84-83-83). Justin Popp (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) finished with a 254 (85-89-90) total.

Under seventh-year head coach Ted Vickerman, Augsburg finished the 2011-12 season with a 314.2 team stroke average, a three-stroke improvement from the team's 317.2 stroke average in 2010-11 and Augsburg's best season-long stroke average since a 305.91 average in the 2006-07 season. Augsburg had a 306.5 stroke average in its three countable tournaments in the spring half of this season.

Augsburg finished with a .493 (68-70) win-loss percentage in 2011-12, including a .595 (25-17) win-loss percentage in the spring half of the season.

Three Auggies finished with sub-80 stroke averages -- Johnson with a 76.4 average, Aughinbaugh with a 77.7 average and Deuel with a 78.0 average. Johnson's 76.4 season average is the best for an Auggie since Vanyo's 76.0 in the 2008-09 season.
