MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College pitcher Ryan Mestnik (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) was named to the D3baseball.com All-Midwest Region third team, it was announced on Friday. Mestnik was one of three first-year players named to the 43-player, three-team squad.

Mestnik shined in his inaugural collegiate baseball season, finishing with an 8-2 record and a 2.30 earned-run average in 13 appearances (12 starts), including four complete games and three shutouts. Pitching in 58.2 innings this season, Mestnik struck out 24 while walking 10 and allowing a .206 opponent batting average.

Mestnik opened the 2012 season with an 8-0 record in his first nine appearances (eight starts), with a 0.73 ERA. He allowed just four runs and 29 hits in his first nine appearances, while striking out 22 and allowing just eight walks.

His 2.30 ERA was fifth-best among MIAC pitchers in overall statistics (all games), with his eight wins tied for third-most and his three shutouts tied for the MIAC's most. His .206 opponent batting average was third-best in overall play. In league games-only, Mestnik was 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA in seven appearances (six starts), including two complete games and a shutout in 30.2 innings of work, with 11 strikeouts against five walks. His .246 opponent batting average in MIAC play was eighth-best among league pitchers.

This is the first season that D3baseball.com, a national website covering NCAA Division III baseball, has awarded all-region teams covering the eight regions in Division III.

Augsburg finished 24-15 overall, 10-10 in MIAC play in 2012. Augsburg's 24 victories marked the fourth time that the Auggies have won 20 or more games in head coach Keith Bateman's nine seasons at Augsburg, and the Auggies' best record since a 24-18 mark in the 2005 season.
