Jenna Orth (FY, Melrose, Minn./Melrose HS) scored a career-high 12 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 49-45 win over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference action on Wednesday night at the Lenord Center. With the win, the Auggies move to 9-15 overall (7-14 MIAC) and will attempt to post back-to-back double-digit win seasons on Saturday for the first time since the 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons.
Augsburg finished with three players in double figures, led by 
Jill Tichy (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS), who finished with 14 points, six assists and three steals. Orth scored her career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shoting from the floor, while adding a pair of steals and blocked shots. 
Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS) also finished with 12 points for Augsburg, while adding three rebounds and two blocked shots.
Macalester (4-20 overall, 3-18 MIAC) was led by the duo of Veronika Jakubovie and Kyanna Jones. Jakubovie finished with 15 points and seven boards, while Jones posted 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Auggie offense took a while to find its rhythm tonight but was able to put together the rally it needed down the stretch. Macalester led 36-23 with 11:15 to play in the second-half but Augsburg went on a 10-0 run to pull within 36-33 with 6:45 left in the action. The Auggies tied things up at 40-40 off a pair of free throws by Orth at the 2:39 mark and went ahead for the first time of the second-half on a 3-pointer by Tichy on the Auggies next possession. Both teams were notched at 43-43 with 1:44 to play but Augsburg connected on a key lay-up by Skriba to go up 48-43 with 23 seconds to play. Macalester cut the lead to 48-45 with eight seconds remaining but Augsburg's Tichy was able to hit 1-of-2 from thre free throw line to seal the 49-45 victory for the Auggies.
For the game, Augsburg shot 32.7 percent (17-fo-52) from the field, while the Scots connected on 26.4 percent (14-of-53) of their shots. Macalester was able to grab a 47-32 advantage on the boards but the Auggies tied a season-high with eight blocked shots.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (2/13) when it travels down to Winona, Minn. to take on St. Mary's University in a men's and women's double header, marking the final MIAC regular season game for both the Auggie teams.
