Softball drops two to Tommies

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) went 4-for-7, scored two runs and added a stolen base, but the Augsburg College softball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

Augsburg (8-16 overall, 1-5 MIAC) dropped the first game to No. 12-ranked St. Thomas (15-5 overall, 2-0 MIAC) by a score of 11-4, before falling in game two of the twinbill 7-5.

Dorale reached based five times, while recording four hits and two runs scored to lead the Auggie offensive attack. With her 4-for-7 performance at the plate in the doubleheader, Dorale raised her season batting average to a team-high .531 on the season, which is ranked third-highest in the MIAC this season.

After falling behind early, the Auggies used a three run fifth inning to within 5-3 of St. Thomas in game two. Augsburg loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the seventh, but could not complete the comeback, falling to the Tommies by a score of 7-5 in the second game. St. Thomas used a seven-run third frame to jump out in front in the first game en route to an 11-4 victory.

Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for Augsburg in both games, as she struck out two and walked three in 4.2 innings of work.

Lindsey Helbach (SO, Amherst, Wis.) went 2-for-8 with two runs batted in and a run scored, while Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) and Lauren Hurley (FY, Mounds View, Minn.) both added multi-hit games for the Auggies, recording two hits each. Bekka Kelly (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn.) and Mary Hildestad (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) each recorded hits for the Auggies in game one, while Kelsey Rorabeck (SR, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) and Sarah Buckner (FY, Duluth, Minn./East HS) recorded hits for the Auggies in the second game.

Olivia Boerschinger (SO, Neenah, Wis.) worked 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and five hits on the day. 

For St. Thomas, pitcher Morgan Murphy (FY, Sheridan, Ill./Sandwich) pitched a complete game 10-hitter to pick up the win in the second game.

The Auggies return to action this Saturday (4/6) at 1 p.m. as they host Macalester College in a MIAC doubleheader at Edor Nelson Field.
