D3FOOTBALL.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College linebacker
Michael Juberian (JR, Richfield, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) and the Auggie offensive line earned spots on the D3football.com Team of the Week for their efforts in the Auggies' season-opening win at Concordia University-Wisconsin, it was announced on Tuesday.
The players were honored by
D3football.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III football, for their efforts in Augsburg's 51-17 win on Saturday.
Augsburg's offensive line in the Concordia-Wisconsin game was made up of starters: left tackle
Andrew Konieczny (FY, Tomah, Wis.), left guard
Cory Strasser (SR, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS), center
Chad Thompson (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.), right guard
Matt Green (SO, Victoria, Minn./Holy Family Catholic HS) and right tackle
Bob Rose (SO, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS).
With just one starter returning from last season (Thompson), the line protected an offense that produced 606 yards of total offense in the victory. Augsburg averaged 9.2 yards per offensive play (66 plays) on Saturday, with 309 rushing yards and 297 passing yards. Concordia recorded no sacks and just 3.0 tackles for-loss against the Auggies.
In his first game at Augsburg after transferring from St. Thomas, Juberian recorded a team-best 10 tackles, including 2.0 tackles-for-loss, 1.0 sacks and a forced fumble, in Saturday's win. His forced fumble in the first quarter gave the Auggies the ball at the Concordia 39-yard line, and four plays later, the Auggies scored their first touchdown of the game, taking a 10-0 lead. He also had a sack in the first quarter for a loss of 11 yards.
Juberian was one of the leaders of an Augsburg defense that held Concordia-Wisconsin, a 7-3 team last year, to 353 yards of total offense (147 rushing, 206 passing) in the game.
Augsburg is idle this week, and returns to action with its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m., hosting Gustavus Adolphus College at Edor Nelson Field.
