MEET RESULTS
ST. PAUL, Minn.--
Lauren Rice (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Holy Family) claimed two event victories to lead the Augsburg College women's track and field team at the University of St. Thomas Showcase on Friday evening. No team results were recorded at the event.Â
Rice, who set the school record in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs in 2013, started the 2014 season with a meet to remember. She set a school record in winning the 3,000-meter run (10:15.86) -- breaking the old record by 17.87 seconds. Rice also won the mile run on Friday with a time of 5:12.95.Â
Taybri Irving (FY, Rosemount, Minn.) ran well in the 3,000-meter race as well, finishing in fourth place with a time of 10:26.94.
First-year
Makayla Hubbard picked up a victory in her first collegiate event, winning the shot put with a throw of 13.44 meters (44-feet-1.25).
Katie Hedrick (FY, Norwalk, Wis./Sparta) threw the shot put 9.26 meters (30-feet-4.75), long enough for ninth place.Â
Two Auggie sprinters finished in the top 10 of the preliminaries in the 60-meter dash. First-year
Callie Jones qualified for the finals with a time of 8.19 in sixth place, and
Molly Allen (JR, Stillwater, Minn.) finished 10th in 8.40 seconds. Allen also ran well in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 27.85 seconds, good enough for fifth.Â
Other notable Augsburg performers included
Kai Mason (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS), who just missed qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 9.71 seconds, finishing in ninth place in the preliminaries. Mason also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing 17th with a time of 28.67 seconds, just in front of teammate Jones, who finished 18th in 28.77 seconds. Cate Fritz (JR, WIllmar, Minn.) was the top Augsburg finisher in the 400-meter dash, in 14th-place with a time of 1:10.61
The Auggies will be back in action Saturday (2/1) at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Warren Bowlus Open in Menomonie, Wis.
