Ashley Kloncz (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) tied the game for Augsburg College with a goal in the second period, but the Auggies surrendered a goal at the 3:22 mark of overtime, as the University of St. Thomas scored a 2-1 win in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey action on Friday evening at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.
Augsburg (5-13-0 overall, 2-9-0 MIAC) nearly killed off a five-minute major penalty that extended into overtime, but three seconds before the power play was to end, Tara Baago scored from Jenny Saxon, giving St. Thomas (12-3-3 overall, 9-0-2 MIAC) the victory.
The Tommies struck first, as Christina Rozeske scored an unassisted goal at the 5:56 mark of the second period. But 36 seconds later, Kloncz scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by
Callen Naasz (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and
Abigail Dickinson (SO. Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS).Â
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 40-25 margin, including a 6-0 advantage in overtime.
Brianna Schulz (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 38 saves in goal for Augsburg -- her fifth game this season with 30 or more saves. Alise Riedel had 24 saves for St. Thomas.
Kayla Fuechtmann (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had six shots on-goal for Augsburg.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/1) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
