MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's and women's track and field teams set another record in the teams' annual Run-A-Thon on Saturday and Sunday, running 260 miles in a 24-hour span to raise money for their annual spring break training and competition trip.
Fifty-two Augsburg men's and women's track and field student-athletes particpatedÂ
in the 24-hour team relay around Murphy Square Park on the Augsburg campus. The relay began at 8 a.m. on Saturday and lasted until 8 a.m. on Sunday, with at least one team member running at all times during the 24-hour period."The Run-a-Thon is a great Auggie track & field tradition. All the team members get a good workout, along with team bonding activities for the athletes hanging out and waiting to participate. The conditions were quite a bit warmer this year, and the team went above and beyond our mileage goal. It was an all-around great event and we appreciate all the donations from alumni, parents, and Auggie supporters." said Augsburg Head CoachÂ
Jarred Sampson.
The teams broke the previous record for mileage run with 260 miles competed in the 24-hour span and 800-plus laps. The old record of 742 laps and 230.6 miles was set in last year's Run-A-Thon.
The Augsburg track and field teams will open their 2015 indoor season on Jan. 24 at the Macalester Invitational.
