Brianna Schulz (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) came up with 32 saves for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Schulz's 32 saves marks the sixth time this season that she has claimed 30 or more saves in a game. Her 437 saves this season are the most among
MIAC players in overall statistics.
Augsburg (5-14-0 overall, 2-10-0 MIAC) fell behind St. Thomas (13-3-3 overall, 10-0-2 MIAC) early, as the Tommies scored at the 3:22 mark of the first period. Lauren Mumm (SR, Rogers, Minn.) scored from Mary Grace Flesher (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS). The Tommies added a second goal at the 6:31 mark of the third period, when Christina Rozeske (SR, Owatonna, Minn.) scored from Paige Baldwin (JR, Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka HS).
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 34-30 margin, but Augsburg had a 12-9 shots advantage in the third period.
Darby Lindgren (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had six shots on-goal for Augsburg, while
Rachel Hennessy (JR, WIlliston, N.D.) had four shots.
Brenna Nakonechny (SO, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS),
Casey Miller (JR, Bemidji, Minn.),
Claire Cripps (SO, Hutchinson, Minn.) and
Kayla Fuechtmann (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had three shots each.
Alise Riedel (SR, Hudson, Wis.) stopped all 30 shots she faced for St. Thomas to pick up the shutout victory.
Augsburg returns to MIAC action next weekend with a series against Saint Mary's. Next Friday's (2/7) game is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, while next Saturday's (2/8) game is at 2 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
