Ashley Anfinson (SO, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) and
Jenna Orth (SO, Melrose, Minn./Melrose HS) both scored career-highs to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 57-47 victory over Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at West Gymnasium.
Augsburg (12-12 overall, 9-12 MIAC) was led by Anfinson's 18 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from three point range, which is tied for fourth in school history for most 3-pointers made in a single game and tied for fifth in 3-point field goal percentage. Anfinson also added two rebounds and a steal in 30 minutes of action.
Orth recorded career-highs in both points and rebounds for the Auggies, posting her first career double-double with a 14-point 10-rebound effort, while adding five assists and a steal.
Jessica Lillquist (SO, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS) also finished in double figures for the Auggies, claiming 11 points and nine rebounds, on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Carleton (5-19 overall, 3-18 MIAC) finished with three players in double figures, led by Jenny Ramey, who posted 20 points and nine rebounds, while adding a pair of assist and a steal.
The two teams traded baskets for the first six minutes of action. Augsburg then used a key 13-2 run to go up 21-10 with 6:42 remaining in the half. Carleton was able to hit a 3-pointer with one second left to cut the Auggie lead to 32-25 at the intermission.
The Knights tied things up at 34-34 with 13:30 to play but Augsburg was able to return its lead to double figures on a layup by Orth with just under five minutes remaining in the action. The Auggies were able to keep their lead at double digits for the remainder of the game as Augsburg earned the 57-47 victory and returned its record to .500.
For the game, Augsburg shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the field, while Carleton converted on 31.5 percent (17-of-54) of its shots. The Auggies posted a 41-34 advantage on the boards and were able to hit eight 3-pointers, while the Knights were only able to make three from beyond the arc.
Augsburg will play its final game of the season on Saturday (2/22) when the Auggies travel to Winona, Minn. for a men's and women's doubleheader. Women's action is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. while the men will begin at 3 p.m.
