Softball - Auggie Dome Games

| BOXSCORE 3 | BOXSCORE 4 MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College's annual Auggie Dome Games softball event will be held this Thursday (2/27), Friday (2/28) and Saturday (3/1) under the dome at Edor Nelson Field. There will be six doubleheaders over a three-day span in climate-controlled comfort.

Admission is free to watch the games this weekend. Fans will need to bring their own lawn chairs, as there are no bleachers available in the dome. Fans will be able to set up their chairs along the left-field fence beyond third base and in the outfield. No space for seating will be available along the right-field fence or infield behind the plate.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARKING - For those planning to park on Minneapolis streets around Augsburg, there is NO PARKING on the EVEN side of NON-SNOW EMERGENCY streets from Feb. 28 until April 1. Violators will be subject to ticketing and towing. Click here for more information on Minneapolis winter parking restrictions.

FRIDAY, FEB. 28:
Augsburg dropped a doubleheader to Wisconsin-La Crosse, falling 8-0 in five innings in the first game and 6-1 in the second game, in the first games of the season for both teams on Friday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Lauren Torborg (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) had a double for the Auggies in the first game, while Emily Smith (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS), Lauren Hurley (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Brenna Nakonechny (FY, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) had the other Augsburg hits.

The Eagles collected nine hits in the game, scoring twice in the first inning, three runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth, ending the game in the fifth inning via the NCAA eight-run rule. Kelli Anderson and Emilie Wiltzius had two hits each for the Eagles, with Anderson driving in three runs and Wiltzius driving in two.

In the second game, a 1-1 tie was broken in the fifth inning, when the Eagles scored two runs to take the lead, adding three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Augsburg's lone run came across in the fourth, as Lindsay Helbach (JR, Amherst, Wis.) doubled and came around to score on a groundout by Torborg. Smith and Bekka Kelly (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) had the other hits in the game for the Auggies.

Katie Fink went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI for UW-La Crosse, while Megan Nelson went 3-for-4 with an RBI.


SATURDAY, MARCH 1:
Wartburg rallied twice for 5-4 victories over Augsburg in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field. In the first game, a three-run home run by Courtney Belk in the top of the seventh inning enabled the Knights to claim the win, and in the second game, the Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome a 4-3 deficit.

Leadoff hitter Lauren Torborg (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) went 2-for-4 at the plate in each game, with a triple and double in the first game. Ashley Anfinson (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had three hits in the doubleheader. Anfinson and Jenna Orth (FY, Melrose, Minn.) had two hits each in the first game. 

In the first game, Bekka Kelly (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) drove in Sarah Buckner (SO, Duluth, Minn./East HS) on a single in the second inning, while a Buckner sacrifice fly plated Emily Smith (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) in the third inning. An Anfinson single drove in Olivia Boerschinger (JR, Neenah, Wis.) in the fourth inning, and Torborg tripled and scored on a groundout by Lauren Hurley (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) in the sixth inning.

In the second game, an RBI triple by Kelly plated Brenna Nakonechny (FY, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS), and Smith plated Devon Shaut (SR, Merritt Island, Fla.) on an RBI single in the third inning. A Buckner double drove home Anfinson in the sixth inning, and a Torborg single drove home Nakonechny in the seventh.

Taylor Smola went 6-for-8 with three RBI and a home run in the doubleheader for Wartburg, while Belk and Katie Wyman had four hits each in the doubleheader.
