Auggies led by four first-place finishes at Bethel Classic

MEET RESULTS

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.-- Lauren Rice (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Holy Family Catholic), Kayla Roberge (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Holy Angels), Kai Mason (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) and first-year Makayla Hubbard led the Augsburg women's track and field team with first-place finishes at the Gene Glader Classic at Bethel University Saturday afternoon. No team results were recorded at the meet. 

Rice, currently ranked 18th in the nation, set another indoor school record, this time in the one mile run, finishing in first-place with a time of 5:06.78. Roberge and Mason picked up their first victories of the indoor season with wins in the 800-meter run and 60-meter hurdles. Roberge crossed the finish line in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.74, while Mason's 60-meter hurdle victory time was 9.54. Makayla Hubbard earned her second victory of the season with a throw of 41'1.75" in the shot put, while nine other Auggies picked up top-five finishes and personal records to round out a very strong day on the track. 

First-year Callie Jones finished third in the 60-meter dash, while Molly Allen (JR, Stillwater, Minn.), Ashley Waalen (FY, Amery, Wis.) and Olivia Muyres (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) crossed in fifth, seventh and eighth with times of 8.40, 8.58, 8.84 respectively. Allen earned her second top-five finish of the day in the 200-meter dash placing third with a time of 27.41. Waalen finished ninth with a time of 28.53, while Marta Anderson (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) recorded a personal best time of 29.74. The Auggies 4x200 meter relay team of Allen, Mason, Jones and Waalen finished second with a time of 1:49.98.

Augsburg had more strong finishers in the middle distance categories with Kayla Roberge leading the charge by winning the 800-meter run and recording a personal best time of 2:22.74, while Emma Blom (FY, Culver, Minn./South Ridge) also crossed with a personal best of 2:33.12, good enough for sixth-place. Anna Peterson's time of 2:57.41 was a personal record for her in the event as well. Cate Fritz competed in the 600-meter run and finished sixth with a time of 2:01.31. 

Taybri Irving (FY, Rosemount, Minn.) ran a strong mile time of 5:47.26, good enough for seventh-place and her personal record. The field participants for Augsburg were very competitive with many personal records and top finishes. Callie Jones recorded a personal record and second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 14'10". Hubbard's shot put throw of 41'1.75" garnered first place, while Andrea Heil (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) and Katie Hedrick (FY, Norwalk, Wis./Sparta) finished in third and fourth with throws of 30'5.75" and 28'5" respectively. The Auggie women recorded four top-ten finishes in the weight throw with Heil leading the charge with a throw of 39'4.5" and third-place. Kali Kuusisto (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) finished fifth with a distance of 38'0", while Hubbard and Hedrick finished in sixth and seventh with throws of 37'5" and 37'2.25" respectively. 

Augsburg will return to action on Saturday (2/15) as they travel to Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. to participate in the Carleton College Meet of the Hearts.
