Auggies claim two MIAC champs and five All-MIAC finishes at Indoor Championships

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Augsburg women's track and field team finished day two of the MIAC Indoor Championships in eighth place, improving on last year's 10th place finish. 

Lauren Rice set yet another school record at the MIAC Indoor Championships, this time finishing in second-place with a time of 9:59.28 in the 3000-meter run. Kayla Roberge continued her strong weekend by recording a top-ten finish in the 1000-meter run finishing in sixth-place with a time of 3:01.58. 

Competing in the women's 200-meter dash for the Auggies were Molly Allen (27.36), Callie Jones (27.79) and Kai Mason (28.28) who finished in 14th, 19th and 23rd respectively. Makayla Hubbard's throw of 40'8.25" in the shot put was good enough for sixth-place. 

The women's 1600-meter relay team of Allen, Anderson, Muyres and Waalen finished in 11th with a time of 4:26.00, while the 800-meter relay team of Waalen, Allen, Mason and Jones finished in fifth-place with a time of 1:48.77.

The Augsburg men's track and field team also improved on last years total, with 32 points and a ninth place finish. Ryan Cook's 600-meter dash time of 1:23.25 is a new school record and was fast enough to place him in fifth.

In the 1000-meter run, Mohamed recorded a time of 2:35.83 and Erickson finished in 2:37.82, placing them in 11th and 18th respectively. Mohamed also competed in the 3000-meter run, finishing in ninth with a time of 8:47.81. 

Barinedum Kordah recorded a top-ten finish in the 200-meter dash finishing in sixth with a time of 22.76 seconds, while Phil Putratz finished in 13th with a time of 23.36. Sean Adams' triple jump distance of 41'5" was good enough for an eighth-place finish.  

The Augsburg men's 1600-meter relay team of Mohamed, Kordah, Cook and Iverson finished in eighth-place with a time of 3:28.85

MEET RESULTS

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men and women's indoor track and field teams started competition at the MIAC indoor championships at McNeely Spectrum on the campus of Saint John's University on Friday afternoon. The Auggie men and women set 11 indoor personal records and three indoor school records on the first day.

The Auggie men finished the first day in eighth place and are taking plenty of momentum into the second day. Augsburg's Undre Smith-Brewer led the way for the Auggie men, claiming a conference championship in the 60-meter dash, setting an Augsburg and facility record with a 6.91-second victory. 

Sean Adams set a school record in the heptathlon with 3,667 points. Heptathlon competition started on Thursday with Adams completing the 60-meter dash in a personal best 7.55 seconds, and recorded great numbers in the long jump (18-feet-7.25), shot put (34-feet-5.75) and high jump (5-feet-2.25) to put him in sixth place. Day two saw Adams fall to 10th place overall after competing in the 60-meter hurdles (9.98), pole vault (9-feet-8) and recording a personal best in the 1,000-meter run (3:06.42). 

Barinedum Kordah recorded a personal best and finished in second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.98, just 0.3 seconds behind the winner. Kordah also competed in the long jump and finished in sixth with a distance of 21-feet-3.5. Luke Iverson and Luke Erickson both finished in the top-15 of the 800-meter run with times of 1:59.07 and 2:00.67 respectively. Erickson's time was also a personal best. 

Mohamed Mohamed finished in 10th place in the mile run with a time of 4:31.35, while Micheale Tesema and Chris Huss competed in the 5000-meter run. Tesema finished in seventh place with a time of 15:37.34, while Huss finished in 16th with a time of 16:56.34. The Auggie distance medley relay team of Iverson, Erickson, Ryan Cook and Mohamed finished in 10th place with a time of 10:53.35.

The Auggie women had a strong day as well, finishing in seventh place, highlighted by Lauren Rice winning the MIAC championship in the 5,000-meter run, breaking the Augsburg indoor and McNeely Spectrum records. Rice finished in first place by a landslide, with the second-place runner crossing the finish line 39 seconds behind her record mark of 17:19.92. 

Callie Jones and Ashley Waalen each set new personal bests in the 60-meter dash with times of 8.17 and 8.42 respectively. Jones qualified for the finals with an even faster mark of 8.00 seconds, but her time in the finals placed her in eighth. Molly Allen also competed in the sprint, recording a time of 8.39 seconds. Kai Mason qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.45 and bested that in the finals crossing the finish line in 9.38 seconds for eighth place. 

Kayla Roberge also set a personal record in the 800-meter run, finishing in fifth place with a time of 2:16.92. Taybri Irving, Marta Anderson, Emma Blom and Roberge competed in the distance medley relay and finished seventh with a time of 13:01.43. 

Jones and Makayla Hubbard both set personal marks in their field events. Jones in the long jump with a distance of 16-feet-5.75, good enough for seventh place, and Hubbard's weight throw of 47-feet-2.5 placed her in ninth. 

The MIAC Championships continue on Saturday, starting with the men's shot put at 12 p.m.
The Augsburg College indoor track and field teams will have 21 entries seeded among the top 10 in individual events this weekend at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, to be held at the McNeely Spectrum at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn.

Augsburg will have 35 entries (21 men, 14 women) at the conference indoor meet, which begins on Thursday at 2 p.m. with multi-events. Multi-events conclude on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Individual and relay events begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, and Saturday's action begins at 12 p.m. Both Augsburg squads are aiming to improve upon 10th-place finishes from last season.

The Auggie men will be led this year by newcomer Undre Smith-Brewer (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Johnson HS), who is the top seed in the 60-meter dash (6.96 seconds) and No. 9 seed in the 200-meter dash (22.93 seconds). Barinedum Kordah (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) is the No. 2 seed in the long jump (6.78 meters), No. 3 seed in the 400-meter dash (50.11 seconds) and No. 6 seed in the 200-meter dash (22.81 seconds). 

Micheale Tesema (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) is seeded fourth in the 5,000-meter run (15:08.59) and ninth in the 3,000-meter run (8:42.07). Sean Adams (SO, Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) will compete in the heptathlon on Thursday and is seeded No. 7 in the triple jump (12.82 meters). Matt Green (JR, Victoria, Minn./Holy Family Catholic HS) is seeded fourth in the shot put (14.60 meters). Mohamed Mohamed (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) is seeded ninth in both the mile run (4:28.89) and 1,000-meter run (2:35.28). Phil Putratz (JR, Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) is seeded ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.17 seconds).

On the women's side, eight Augsburg entries are seeded among the top 10 in individual events. Leading the way will be senior Lauren Rice (SR, Minnetonka, Minn./Holy Family Catholic HS), who is seeded second in both the 3,000-meter run (10:07.61) and 5,000-meter run (17:40.93). Kayla Roberge (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Holy Angels HS) is seeded fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:01.00) and No. 7 in the 800-meter run (2:20.99). 

Makayla Hubbard (FY, La Grange Park, Ill./Lyons Township HS) is seeded No. 4 in the shot put (13.44 meters) and 10th in the 20-pound weight throw (14.34 meters). Kai Mason (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) is seeded No. 9 in the 60-meter hurdles (9.54 seconds), and Callie Jones (FY, Waubeka, Wis./Random Lake HS) is seeded No. 9 in the long jump (4.97 meters).
