Meghan Peyton finished 11th in the women's 10,000-meter run at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held on Thursday evening at Sacramento State University's Hornet Stadium.
Peyton finished the race in 33:11.63. She held the lead in the 19-competitor race at the 4,000-meter mark, but the race eventually turned into a two-runner battle between Kim Conley and Jordan Hasay, with Conley claiming the win with a sprint in the final 100 meters to win in 32:02.07 to Hasay's 32:03.28.Â
It's the 18th time Peyton has finished in the top 11 in various USA distance and cross country championships since 2009. She became a pro runner, joining the Team USA Minnesota training center, in 2008.

Meghan Peyton will be competing in the women's 10,000-meter run TONIGHT (Thursday 6/26) at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, being held at Sacramento State University's Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.

Peyton is one of 19 competitors in the women's 10,000-meter run, and has the 11th-fastest qualifying time among the entrants. She set her career-best time of 32:47.37 in the event at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on May 4. The 2013 USA 20k champion, Peyton finished ninth in the USA 10k Championships last year.
Peyton will enter her first full season as Augsburg's men's and women's cross country head coach in 2014. She has served as a men's and women's track and field assistant coach at Augsburg since 2010.Â
She competed in track and cross country at the University of Iowa. The four-time NCAA Division I All-American was the 2008 Big Ten champion in both the indoor 3,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters. She also holds the Iowa school record in the 1,500 meters of 4:17.41. Additional collegiate achievements include a best of 33:28.00 in the 10,000 meters and a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. After graduating in the spring of 2008, Peyton joined Team USA Minnesota in Minneapolis, where she has been a member of four USA national teams and competed at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. She still trains with Team USA Minnesota with the goal of making the 2016 U.S. Olympic team.
