Salan lead Auggies at UW-River Falls Invite

MEET RESULTS

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The men's cross country team was led by Abdullahi Salan (JR, Burnsville, Minn.), who finished with a personal-best 26:31.5, good enough for 11th in the 8,000 meter race on Saturday morning at Kilkarney Hills Golf Course.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Salan and Mohamed Mohamed (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished in the top-fifteen with Mohomed crossing the finish line 24 seconds after Salan and in 12th place with a time of 26:45.6. 
• Andrew McGillvary (SO, Minneaoplis, Minn./Southwest HS) finished third for the Auggies and 18th overall with a time of 27:50.3, while Chris Huss (SO, Jordan, Minn.) also finished in the top-20 with a personal-best time of 28:06.2. 
• Ibrahim Barqadle (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Fridley HS) finished with a time of 28;32.3, while Luke Iverson (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.) and Luke Erickson (SO, Chippewa Falls, Wis.) also competed for the Auggies. Iverson recorded a time of 28:48.6, while Erickson finished with a personal-best time of 29:15.1. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Chris Huss' time of 28:06.2 was a personal-best. Last year Huss finished the UW-River Falls 8k in 28:49. 
• Luke Erickson's time of 29:15.1 is also a personal-best. Last year Erickson's best time was in the MIAC Championship's when he finished with a time of 30:27.7.

• All seven Augsburg runners finished the 8,000 meter race in under 30-minutes. 

FOR THE FOES
• UW-Stevens Point won the event with five runners in the top-ten and a point total of 26. Alexander Gonzales led the Pointers placing second overall with a time of 25:48.2 
• Charles Corbett of UW-Superior won the race with a time of 25:44.1, and helped his team place second with a point total of 50. 

• UW- River Falls also finished in front of the Auggies with a total score of 75, and one runner in the top five. Daniel Borash finished fifth with a time of 25:57.2.

•"We started off the season really strong with two women, Kayla and Taybri, placing in the top ten and we had some great PR's. I'm really proud of the effort that the women and men gave today. For the men, Abdullahi and Mohamed both finished in the top 15, so strong races on both sides. I'm really proud of how we ran today, some big PR's and some great races."
