Auggies pick up important point in 1-1 draw

MINNEAPOLIS -- Erika Allen (JR, Roseville, Minn.) stopped 33 of the 34 shots she faced in goal on Friday night, as her Augsburg College women's hockey team claimed a 1-1, overtime tie with the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 34-16 margin, including a 14-5 advantage in the third period, but Allen recorded several key saves en route to the draw.
• Augsburg took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period, when Callen Naasz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored from Abigail Dickinson (JR, Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS). 
• The 33-save effort marked Allen's sixth 30-plus save effort in her 13 starts so far this season.
• With the draw, Augsburg remains in a fifth-place tie in the MIAC standings with Bethel, as both have 11 points. Six teams are within four points of each other in the middle of the pack in the conference standings.
• Naasz and Kayla Fuechtmann (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had three shots on-goal each for the Auggies, while Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D.) and Ellie Schaaf (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) had two shots each.


FOR THE FOES
• The Tommies tied the game at 1-1 with 3:33 left in the third period, as Maddie McGlade scored from Hannah Bird and Rachel Friberg.
• Taylor Neisen had
 15 saves in goal for St. Thomas.

• The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/31) at 2 p.m. at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
