Auggies topped 4-1 at St. Thomas

BOXSCORE MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Kayla Fuechtmann (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) scored the lone goal of the game for Augsburg College, but the University of St. Thomas scored the last three goals of the game in a 4-1 win in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Fuechtmann scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season at the 10:06 mark of the first period, tying the game at 1-1 on an assist from Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS). The assist was Kloncz's ninth of the year, a total that leads the team.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 39-26 margin by the Tommies.
• Augsburg goalie Erika Allen (JR, Roseville, Minn.) had 35 saves in the contest. The 35-save effort marked Allen's seventh 30-plus save effort in her 14 starts so far this season.
• Kloncz had six shots on-goal to lead the Auggies. Brenna Nakonechny (JR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Megan Robertson (FY, Boissevain, Manitoba) had four shots each, and Halie Gudmonson (SO, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had three shots.


FOR THE FOES
• Tara Baago scored two goals for St. Thomas, both in the third period to provide the final margin. Maddie McGlade scored for the Tommies in the first period, and Courtney Umland scored the eventual game-winning goal late in the second period.
• Taylor Neisen had
 25 saves in goal for St. Thomas.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg faces Saint Mary's in an MIAC series next weekend. Next Friday's (2/6) game is at 7 p.m. at the SMU Ice Arena in Winona, Minn., and next Saturday's (2/7) game is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
