Zangel leads Augsburg past Gustavus

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team posted a decisive 79-70 victory over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. The win marks the fourth consecutive victory for the Auggies over the Gusties.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies led for 33 minutes in the contest -- including leading by 13 with just 1:23 left in the game. Augsburg used a 7-of-8 performance from the free throw line in the final 1:12 to seal the victory.
• Augsburg finished with four players in double figures, led by J
oe Zangel (SR, Richfield, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) who finished with a game- and season-high 24 points, while adding a team-high eight rebounds, a pair of steals, a block and an assist. Zangel finished the first-half a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, and 9-of-13 overall for the game.
• Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) finished with 17 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor, while adding six rebounds and a steal.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and Kevin McKiernan (FY, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS), who finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor -- the Auggies third game this season shooting 50 percent or better from the field, while Gustavus connected on 41.3 percent (26-of-63) of its field-goal attempts.
• Augsburg claimed a 35-33 advantage on the boards and posted a 39-26 advantage in points in the paint.

FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus finished with three players in double figures, led by Chris Narum, who finished with 20 points and a game-high three steals. 
• Sergio Najera led the Gusties on the boards, pulling down a game-high nine rebounds, while adding 10 points, three blocked shots and three assists.

• Augsburg returns to action Wednesday (12/9) when the Auggies travel to Winona, Minn. to take on Saint Mary's University in MIAC action.
