Auggies compete at MIAC Track & Field Championships

FINAL RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the final day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Macalester Stadium on the campus of Macalester College. The men's team finished in 10th-place with 25.0 team points, while the women's team finished in 12th place with 11.0 points.

Callie Jones (SO, Waubeka, Wis./Random Lake HS) led the Auggie women, earning all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time 12.15 and added eight team points. Jones finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.64 seconds, picking up two more points for the Augsburg College women's track and field team. 

9600Kayla Roberge (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) earned the final Auggie point with her eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.84. Blair Stewig (FY, Maple Lake, Minn.) competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 12:57.48. Katelyn Davidson (SO, Crookston, Minn.) finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:22.10.

Katie Hedrick (SO, Norwalk, Wis./Sparta HS) finished 14th in the hammer throw with a distance of 127-feet-10, while Bridget Bednar cleared 4-feet-9.5 in the high jump. Jones, Nikaylah Woody, Mary Cornelius (SO, Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Roberge finished ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:07.89. 

On the men's side, injuries hampered the performance of two of the teams top seeded competitors in Undre Smith-Brewer (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Johnson HS) and Barinedum Kordah (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS). The rest of the team stepped up, and helped the Auggies record 25.0 team points over the weekend. 

9944Smith-Brewer finished sixth, earning all-conference honorable mention honors in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.06 seconds. Mohamed Mohamed (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) earned two points with a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter run, finishing with a time of 4:01.15. 

Abdul Salan was Augsburg's top finisher in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:21.40, earning seventh-place and two team points. Chriss Huss finished with a time of 16:58.07. 

Sean Adams (JR, Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) earned all-conference honorable mention honors in the triple jump, finishing sixth with a distance of 43-feet-5.75. Michael Kantor competed in the javelin, finishing in 12th with a distance of 156-feet-10. 


The 4x100-meter realy team of Preston Blake, Fabien Dubbe (SR, New Prague, Minn.), Isiah Sims and Sean Adams finished eighth with a time of 43.70 seconds and earned one point. The 4x400-meter relay team of Dubbe, Luke Iverson (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.), Adams and Mohamed finished in 10th with a time of 3:29.59.

DAY 1 RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams started competition at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Macalester College's Macalester Stadium on Friday afternoon. The men's 3,200-meter relay team recorded a new outdoor school record and on the women's side, Callie Jones qualified for the finals in two events. The men finished day one tied for eighth-place with 14 points, and have 12 athletes set to compete in the finals tomorrow. The women haven't recorded a point yet, but they have eight athletes ready to score big in the finals on Saturday. 

9956?Jones qualified for the finals in the 100- and 200-meter dash with times of 12.78 and 26.34 respectively. The 100-meter dash finals will be at 4:50 p.m., while the 200-meter dash finals are at 5:35 p.m. Saturday. Jones was seeded second in the long jump, but her distance of 15'4.75" was not good enough to place. 

The finals for the women's 10,000-meter run were on Friday, and Augsburg's Taybri Irving (SO, Rosemount, Minn.) and Katelyn Davidson finished in 11th and 14th with times of 39:01.07 and 42:07.9 respectively.


9951?Kayla Roberge qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.15 and will race in the finals on Saturday at 5:05 p.m. Other Auggies competing in the finals on Saturday are Katie Hedrick (hammer throw), Bridget Bednar (high jump), Blair Stewig (3,000-meter steeplechase), Katelyn Davidson (5,000-meter run) and competing in the 1,600-meter relay are Jones, Nikaylah Woody, Mary Cornelius, Roberge.

9950?On the men's side, junior Abdul Salan was the top scorer for the Auggies on Friday, as he finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:11.9, earning five points for the team. Barinedum Kordah recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 21-feet-6. Unfortunately he did not qualify for the finals in the 400-meter dash as he finished with a time of 53.51. 

9949?A highlight for the Auggie men was the 4x800-meter relay team of Mohamed Mohamed, Luke Iverson, Luke Erickson (JR, Chippewa Falls, Wis.) and Ahmed Nur (SR, Edina, Minn.) breaking the school record with a time of 7:59.9 to finish in sixth-place. 

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of first-year Preston Bake, Fabien Dubbe, Isiah Sims and Undre Smith-Brewer qualified for the finals on Saturday (3:35 p.m.) with a time of 43.60. Others to qualify for the finals with their efforts Friday were Mohamed and Smith-Brewer. Mohamed in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:04.31. He will run in the finals on Saturday at 3:55 p.m., while Smith-Brewer qualified in the 100-meter dash (11.26) with the finals set for 4:55 p.m. 

The Auggies will also have Michael Kantor (javelin, shot put), Sean Adams (triple jump), Logan Hortop (shot put), Jesse Kuusisto (shot put), Salan (5,000-meter run), Chris Huss (5,000-meter run), Ibrahim Barqadle (5,000-meter run) competing in events on Saturday. The championships will conclude with the 1,600-meter relay, and Augsburg will have Fabien Dubbe, Sean Adams, Mohamed Mohamed and Barinedum Kordah competing in the final event. 

MIAC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW

The Augsburg College outdoor track and field teams will have 15 entries seeded among the top 10 in individual events at the 2015 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be held this weekend (5/8-9) at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

Augsburg will have 30 athletes (18 men, 12 women) competing at the conference outdoor meet, which begins on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Both Augsburg squads are aiming to improve upon finishes from last season where the men were ninth and the women 10th.

On the women's side, Augsburg's Callie Jones (SO,Waubeka, Wis./Random Lake HS) will be competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, the long jump and the 1,600-meter relay this weekend. Jones currently has the second-fastest time in the MIAC in the 100-meter dash (12.30) and fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 200 (25.90). She is seeded second in the long jump as well with her best distance of 5.27-meters/17-feet-3.5.

Kayla Roberge(SR, Burnsville, Minn./Holy Angels HS) is currently seeded No. 7 in the women's 800-meter run (2:16.26), while Taybri Irving (SO, Rosemount, Minn.) is seeded No. 9 in the 10,000-meter run (38:48.71). First year Nikaylah Woody is also seeded No. 9 in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.86).

For the Auggie men, Barinedum Kordah(SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) is the No. 1 seed in the 400-meter dash (48.46) and the No. 3 seed in the long jump (6.73-meters/22-feet-1). Undre Smith-Brewer(SO, St. Paul, Minn./Johnson HS) is seeded No. 2 in the 200-meter dash (22.28) and No. 7 in the 100-meter dash (11.04).

Augsburg's pole vault record-holder, Deontae Heuer (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Stanley Boyd HS), is seeded No. 5 (4.35-meters/14-feet-3.25). Mohamed Mohamed (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) is seeded No. 7 in the 1,500-meter run (3:59.45), and Abdul Salan is seeded No. 11 in the 10,000-meter run (33:21.89). First-year Preston Blake is seeded No. 10 in the 200-meter dash (22.71).

Last Thursday and Friday, Augsburg's Sean Adams (JR, Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) competed in the MIAC Decathlon at Carleton, finishing seventh with a personal best 5,392 total points.
