Irving earns medalist honors at St. Kate's Invite

MEET RESULTS

SAINT PAUL, Minn.. -- Augsburg College cross country runner Taybri Irving (SR, Rosemount, Minn.) was the top finisher at the St. Catherine Invitational on Saturday morning, scoring her second meet win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After her 11th-place finish last Saturday in a 6,000-meter race, Irving scored her second individual victory of 2016 in the 5,000-meter St. Catherine Invitational, finishing in 18:57.35. 
• As a team, Augsburg finished fifth in the five-team meet with 112 points, with three Auggies finishing among the top 30 in the 85-runner meet.
• Competing in her first 5,000-meter collegiate race, Malena Larsen (FY, Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 19th overall (18th team) in 19:56.91 while Blair Stewig (JR, Maple Lake, Minn.) finished third for the Auggies in 20:29.35. Stewig finished 30th overall in the 85-runner race. 
• Beating her collegiate-best 5,000-meter time by almost two minutes, Emma Blom (SR, Culver, Minn./South Ridge HS) finished third for the Auggies in 20:53.79. Blom was 42nd overall. 
Kailey James (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) finished in 21:09.65, Athena Cloud (SO, Ponemah, Minn./Bemidji HS) finished in 29:25.08 and Taylor Morton (FY, Morongo Valley, Calif./Desert Hot Springs HS) finished in a collegiate best time of 30:58.58.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Catherine won the meet with 42 team points, claiming three of the top five individual finishers. Luther (Iowa) was second with 52 points, Hamline was third with 60 points and Macalester was fourth with 87 points.

• Augsburg competes in the MIAC Championships at Como Park Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn., on Oct. 29.
