MINNEAPOLIS -- Nate Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty shot with 36 seconds remaining in overtime, giving the Augsburg College men's hockey team a 2-1 nonconference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UW-Eau Claire outshot Augsburg by a 9-3 margin in overtime, but the Auggies received a chance to win the game, when Flynn was slashed on a breakaway attempt. He converted the penalty shot for the game-winner -- the first of his career and first penalty shot goal for an Auggie since Mack Ohnsted scored one on Jan. 24, 2014 against Concordia-Moorhead.
• Augsburg, ranked No. 14 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll, scored first against the No. 8-ranked Blugolds, but the visitors tied the game at the 7:30 mark of the third period, forcing overtime.
• Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 11:27 mark of the first period, assisted by Trevor Stewart (SR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS) and Rory Vesel (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS). 
• Goalie Nick Schmit (SO, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS), a transfer from Wisconsin-Stout making his second start for the Auggies, stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced to pick up the victory.
• UW-Eau Claire outshot Augsburg by a 36-33 margin in the game. Eric Brenk (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) had five shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Evan Hesse (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) and Dylan Meier (SR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) had four shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Jesse Tredinnick tied the game for UW-Eau Claire at the 7:30 mark of the third period, assisted by Logan Von Ruden and Lucas Kohls.
• Tredinnick had eight shots on-goal for the Blugolds, while Patrick Moore had five shots.
• Jay Deo had 31 saves in goal for the Blugolds.
