CORNELL MATMAN OPEN - AUGSBURG RESULTS
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- Claiming five individual weight-class titles and 12 placewinners, the Augsburg College wrestling team claimed the team title at the Cornell College Matman Open, held on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 2 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national poll, won the 15-school meet with 191.0 points, ahead of No. 16-ranked Cornell (Iowa) with 148.0 points. No. 7-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) finished third with 142.0 points. Wrestlers from eight nationally-ranked teams competed at the tournament.

David Flynn (FY, Jordan, Minn./Scott West), a transfer from Division I North Dakota State, claimed his first tournament victory as an Auggie with four victories at 141 pounds. After claiming two pins and a decision in his first three wins, he scored a 4-2 win over No. 5-ranked Josh Martin of Cornell in the championship match, improving to 19-5 on the season (10-2 at Augsburg). He has nine pins this season, including five as an Auggie.

Victor Gliva (FY, Farmington, Minn.), who moved into the national rankings at 125 pounds for the first time this week at the No. 5 spot, improved to 20-4 on the season with his weight-class title, his second of the season. He claimed a pin and two major decisions among his four wins, including an 11-2 win over Rob Murray of Stevens Tech in the title match. He has now won 11 straight matches and has 10 bonus-point wins (four pins, two technical falls, four major decisions) among his 20 victories.
• No. 3-ranked heavyweight
Donny Longendyke (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), scored his second title of the season with four victories, including pins in his first two matches. He scored a 5-4 win over Adarios Jones of Augustana (Ill.), the No. 8-ranked heavyweight nationally, in the title match. Longendyke is now 11-1 on the season with seven pins, 135-27 in his college career with 76 pins, and 94-6 in his three seasons at Augsburg with 53 pins.

Gable Frandsen (JR, Ellsworth, Wis.) claimed an impressive tournament win at 165 pounds, going 5-0 on the day. He opened the meet with a 5-3 overtime win over Colin Navickas of Stevens Tech, ranked No. 8 nationally, the scored four more wins, including a 3-2 win over Mitchell Fucile of Lakeland (Wis.) in the finals.

Ryan Epps (FY, Cannon Falls, Minn.) improved to 18-3 on the season with the title at 149 pounds, scoring an 82 win over teammate Tannar Vassar (FY, Maple Lake, Minn.) in the title match. The title is Epps' third of the season. Vassar went 4-1 on the day, including two pins, to improve to 17-7.

Tone Fuenffinger (JR, Hibbing, Minn.) finished second at 157 pounds, going 4-1 with three pins on the day.
Jackson Graham (JR, Apple Valley, Minn.) recovered from an opening-round loss with seven straight wins to finish third at 174.

Sam Bennyhoff (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) at 133.
Jonny Zarnke (FY, Chaska, Minn.) and
Ethan Hofacker (FY, Spring Valley, Minn.) placed fifth at 184 and heavyweight respectively, and Alex Wilson (SO, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) placed sixth at 149.

• Augsburg returns to action on Friday (1/20) with a dual meet against Concordia-Moorhead at Si Melby Hall. White Team (JV) action begins at 6 p.m., and varsity action begins at 7:30 p.m.
