Auggies return to MIAC play with 4-1 win over Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS -- With 10 different players figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg College men's hockey team improved to 5-1-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday night at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tied 1-1 after the first period, Augsburg scored twice in the first 6:51 of the second period to take the lead, then added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to claim the 4-1 win.
• Dylan Meier (SR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) opened the scoring for the Auggies, scoring from Chris Nuth (JR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) and Jason Krych (FY, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS).
• Krych also assisted, with Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS), on the goal-ahead goal 1:26 into the second period by Corbin Chapman (SR, Burnsville, Minn.). The Auggies took a 3-1 lead 5:25 later, when Andy Faust (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) scored from Rory Vesel (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Eric Brenk (SO, Moorhead, Minn.).
• The Auggies capped the win with an empty-net goal by Nate Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn.), assisted by Eli May (JR, Eagan, Minn.) with four seconds left.
• Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 47-22 margin in the game, including a 22-7 advantage in the final period. Chapman had seven shots on-goal, while Max Pernhem (JR, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) had six shots and Dietsch had five.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced in goal to earn the win.

FOR THE FOES
• Jordan Krebsbach scored the lone goal of the game for Concordia, tallying a power-play marker at the 18:49 mark of the first period, assisted by Zach Doerring and Garrett Hendrickson. 
• Sam Nelson had 43 saves in goal for the Cobbers.

• The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/21) at 2 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
