Royals top Auggies in MIAC action

MINNEAPOLIS -- A 60 percent shooting effort for the Bethel University Royals in the first half proved too much for the the Augsburg College men's basketball team to overcome as the Auggies dropped an 89-71 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Royals displayed an impressive shooting effort in the first half, connecting on 21-of-35 from the floor, including 7-of-12 from three point range. Bethel took a 49-31 advantage into the locker room at the half and held on for the win to remain alone atop the MIAC standings.
• The Augsburg offense was led by Kevin McKiernan (SO, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS), who finished with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting. McKiernan has now scored in double-figures in seven straight games and is averaging 16.4 points per-game over that same period.
Richie Perea (SR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) had a solid afternoon, finishing with 16 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, while adding four rebounds and three assists.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Chuckie Smith (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS), who scored 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor.
• Augsburg was led on the boards by Collin Olmscheid, who finished with six rebounds, while adding seven points and an assist.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the floor, while the Royals hit 53.7 percent (36-of-67) of their shot attempts.
• Bethel claimed a 43-33 advantage on the boards, outscored the Auggies 50-16 in points in the paint.


FOR THE FOES
• The Royals finished with five players in double figures, led by Granger Kingland, who connected on 4-of-9 from three point range.
• Trevor Hall led Bethel on the boards, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds, while adding 12 points and three assists.
