Bethel tops Augsburg in MIAC action

MINNEAPOLIS -- Richie Perea (SR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team in an 83-62 loss to Bethel University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Perea led the Auggies with 11 points, five assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Perea has now scored in double figures in three of his last four games, while dishing out five or more assists seven times this season.
Martin Mitchell (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) came off the bench to provide a spark for the Auggies, scoring 11 points while adding two assists, a rebound and a steal.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Kevin McKiernan (SO, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS), who finished with 10 points, while adding three rebounds and a pair of assists.
• For the game, Augsburg was held to 38.1 percent (24-of-63) shooting from the field, while Bethel converted on 54.4 percent (31-of-57) of its shot attempts. The Royals also claimed a 40-28 advantage on the boards. 
• The Auggie reserves outscored the Bethel reserves 29-17. 

FOR THE FOES
• Bethel was led offensively by the duo of Granger Kingland and Brycen Wojta, who finished with 26 and 20 points respectively.
• Derek Magnuson paced the Royals on the boards pulling down seven rebounds, while adding 11 points and an assist.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies return to action on Monday (2/13) at 7 p.m., hosting Saint Mary's University at Si Melby Hall.
• Bethel also returns to action on Monday, when the Royals host Gustavus Adolphus College.
