MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second year in a row, Augsburg College will open NCAA Division III national tournament play with a quarterfinal game at St. Norbert College. The Auggies and Green Knights will meet on Saturday, March 18 at 7 p.m., at the Cornerstone Community Center in De Pere, Wis.
The Auggies and Green Knights are among four West Region teams that all received first-round byes in the 12-team NCAA Division III national bracket. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the national semifinals/finals, which will be held March 24-25 at the Utica (N.Y.) Memorial Auditorium.
Tickets for the quarterfinal game can be ordered online by clicking on this link. All tickets are reserved seating, and range from $6 to $10. There are two sections reserved for visiting teams at the Cornerstone Community Center. For more information on tickets, contact the St. Norbert Box Office at 1-800-762-2699. Augsburg is 17-4-6 overall, its fourth straight season winning 12 or more games. Augsburg claimed its second straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff title, and second straight NCAA tournament berth, with two come-from-behind wins in the MIAC postseason playoffs -- a
5-4 overtime win over Saint Mary's in the semifinals on Feb. 25, and a
3-2 win at top-seed St. Thomas in the finals on Saturday. Augsburg has lost just once in its last 12 games, taking a 7-1-4 mark in that span into the NCAA tournament. Augsburg is making its fourth NCAA tournament appearance (1984, 1998, 2016, 2017).
St. Norbert is 21-5-1 overall and is making its 17th appearance in the NCAA tournament. National champions four times in program history (2008, 2011, 2012, 2014), the Green Knights finished 15-4-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play, winning the NCHAÂ playoff title with a
4-0 win over St. Scholastica in the semifinals on Feb. 25 and a
3-2 win over Adrian (Mich.) in the finals on Saturday. St. Norbert has won seven of its last eight games (7-1-0) entering the national tournament.
The Auggies and Green Knights also met in last season's NCAA quarterfinals, a
6-1 St. Norbert victory on March 19, 2016 in De Pere. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in
this week's USCHO.com Division III national poll, with St. Norbert at No. 3 and Augsburg at No. 8.Â
