Auggies record 10 top-five finishes at Holst Invite

MEET RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's track and field team competed at the Concordia University-St. Paul Holst Invitational on Saturday, recording 10 top-five performances.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
Emmanuel Egbujor (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin HS) finished third the 200-meter dash in 21.62 seconds, while finishing fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.72 seconds. Both are season-best times for Egbujor, and both are tops among MIAC athletes so far this season. Among NCAA Division III athletes nationally, Egbujor currently ranks 13th in the 100-meter dash, while his 200-meter time was in a race that did not meet the wind-tolerance limits (under 4.0 mph) for NCAA Division III qualification.
Undre Smith-Brewer (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Johnson HS) and Preston Blake (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing with times of 22.50 and 23.20 seconds, respectively. Smith-Brewer also took fifth the 100-meter dash in 10.94 seconds. Smith-Brewer's season-best 22.50-second time is 10th-best in the MIAC, while he ranks third in the 100-meter dash with a 10.93-second season-best time.
• In the long jump, Barinedum Kordah (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) took second place with a season-best distance of 6.98 meters (22-feet-11). Kordah also competed in the 100-meter dash where he finished 13th in 11.38 seconds. He is currently ranked fifth in the MIAC in the long jump, 22nd in the 100-meter dash, ninth in the 200-meter dash (22.49), sixth in the 400-meter dash (49.65) and eighth in the triple jump (13.39 meters/43-feet-11.25).
Abdul Salan (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) had a second-place finish for the Auggies in the 5,000-meter run, where he finished with a season-best time of 15:38.46. Chris Huss (SR, Jordan, Minn.) and Jacob Van Houtan (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) also competed in the event finishing in eighth in 16:47.80 and 12th in 17:40.64, respectively, both season-best times.
• Deontae Heuer (JR, Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd HS) claimed a second-place finish in the pole vault with a career-best 4.36-meter (14-feet-3.5) clearance, currently 12th-best among MIAC athletes.
• Two Auggies placed in the top five in the triple jump, with Miracle Adebanjo (FY, London, England/Minneapolis South HS) finishing third in 12.72 meters (41-feet-8.75) and Sean Adams (SR, Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) finishing fourth in 12.63 meters (41-feet-5.25). Adebanjo also finished 11th in the 100-meter dash (11.35 seconds). Adebanjo currently ranks 13th in the MIAC in the triple jump (13.10 meters/42-feet-11.75) and Adams ranks 20th. Adebanjo also ranks 19th in the MIAC in the 100.
Tyler Rea (JR, Red Wing, Minn.) finished fourth in the javelin throw in 42.04 meters (137-feet-11). His earlier season-best throw of 43.79 meters (143-feet-8) ranks 14th in the MIAC.
Patrick Deng (FY, Crookston, Minn.) recorded sixth-place finishes in both hurdle events, finishing the 110-meter hurdles in 17.09 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 59.73. Deng ranks 19th in the MIAC in the 110 hurdles (16.79) and 18th in the 400 hurdles. Ruben Baltierrez (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn.) finished eighth in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.17.
Gunnar Melin (SO, Edina, Minn.) finished ninth in the hammer throw in 51.30 meters (168-feet-4) and 15th in the discus throw in 37.10 meters (121-feet-9). Melin's season-best effort in the hammer throw puts him seventh in the MIAC rankings in the event.
Jesse Kuusisto (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) competed in the hammer throw, where he finished 10th in 49.77 meters (163-feet-3) and the discus throw where he finished 14th in 37.91 meters (124-feet-4). He currently ranks fourth in the MIAC in the discus (44.11 meters/144-feet-9) and ninth in the hammer throw (51.13 meters/167-feet-9).
• In the 800 meter run, Ben Erickson (SO, Andover, Minn.) finished 16th in 2:06.62 and Yasir Said (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Harding HS) finished 22nd in 2:11.72.
• Augsburg's 4x100-meter relay of Deng, Samuel Rosario (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Eastview HS), Baltierrez and Raymond Guyton Jr. (FY, Stockton, Calif./St. Mary's HS) finished fifth in 44.79 seconds.
