Sprinters shine for Auggies at Meet of the Unsaintly

MEET RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's track and field team competed at the Hamline University Meet of the Unsaintly on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Led by Emmanuel Egbujor (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin HS) who took first in the event with an 11.07-second time, the Auggies had five top-10 finishers in the 100-meter dash. Undre Smith-Brewer (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Johnson HS) took second in in 11.17. Finishing fifth, sixth and seventh were Miracle Adebanjo (FY, London, England/Minneapolis South HS), Preston Blake (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Sam Rosario (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Eastview HS) in 11.55, 11.64, and 11.69 respectively. 
• Three other Auggies also recorded sub-12.5-second efforts in the 100-meter dash -- Deontae Heuer (JR, Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd HS) in 12.00, Raymond Guyton Jr. (FY, Stockton, Calif./St. Mary's HS) in 12.09 and Alex Pruitt (FY, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) in 12.29.
• Blake and Rosario also finished in the top 20 in the 200-meter dash, with Blake finishing 15th in 23:52 seconds, and Rosario finishing 17th in 23.62 seconds.
Patrick Deng (FY, Crookston, Minn.) recorded a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.81 seconds., after recording a 16.50-second effort in the preliminaries. Deng also competed in the 400-meter hurdles where he finished 10th in 1:00.72. Tyler Rea (JR, Red Wing, Minn.) finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries in 18.07 seconds. Ruben Baltierrez (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn.) finished 12th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.52, while Sean Adams (SR, Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) finished 13th in 1:02.99.
• Augsburg recorded a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 42.20 seconds, with the quartet of Deng, Smith-Brewer, Barinedum Kordah (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and Egbujor.
• Heuer claimed a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a 4.36-meter (13-feet-10.5) clearance, and finished fourth in the long jump with a 6.39-meter (20-feet-11.75) effort.
• In the triple jump, Adebanjo finished fifth in 12.54 meters (41-feet-1.75) and Adams finished seventh in 12.15 meters (39-feet-10.5).
Jesse Kuusisto (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) finished sixth in the discus with a 45.56-meter (149-feet-6) throw. He also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a 47.94-meter (157-feet-3) effort. Gunnar Melin (SO, Edina, Minn.) competed in the hammer throw and discus throw, recording efforts of 38.53 meters (126-feet-5) in the hammer and 33.53 meters (110-feet-0) in the discus.
• Rea finished sixth in the javelin throw in 41.58 meters (136-feet-5). 
Abdul Salan (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) competed in the for the Auggies in the 1,500-meter run, where he finished with a time of 4:16.42. Chris Huss (SR, Jordan, Minn.) finished in 4:23.36 and Jackson Gerber (FY, Grantsburg, Wis.) finished in 4:43.38.
Ben Erickson (SO, Andover, Minn.) and Yasir Said (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Harding HS) competed in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:05.95 and 2:16.77, respectively.
• Augsburg's "B" squad of Adebanjo, Rosario, Baltierrez and Guyton finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay in 44.19 seconds, and Augsburg's 4x400-meter relay of Blake, Adams, Pruitt and Baltierrez finished eighth in 3:40.68.

• Augsburg will compete in the MIAC Outdoor Championships this Friday and Saturday (5/12-13) at Hamline.
