JORDAN, Minn. -- For the fifth time in school history, an Augsburg University competitor has won the individual title at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships.
Brett Buckingham (SO, Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) claimed co-medalist honors and the Auggies placed third as a team at the championships, completed on Monday at the Ridges at Sand Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing by a stroke going into the final round, Buckingham rallied late in the tournament, claiming birdies on three of the final six holes -- including the 18th hole -- to finish with a final-round 72 and a three-day, 54-hole score of 3-over-par 219 (71-76-72), tying Alec Aunan of Gustavus for the title. Buckingham's 11 birdies in the tournament were the most in the 50-player field. His 219 score is his career-best for a 54-hole event.
• Buckingham is the fifth Auggie to earn MIAC medalist honors in program history, joining Gary Thorvig (1970), Terry Brown (1981), Todd Tourand (1998) and Kevin Van Rossum (1999).
• Buckingham was also named
MIAC Men's Golf Co-Athlete of the Week, with Aunan, on Tuesday.

Harrison Cooper (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) joined Buckingham in earning
All-Tournament honors for the Auggies, tying for fourth place with a career-best 222 (73-77-72) total. Cooper had eight birdies, including four in the final round and his last two holes.

Dakota Krech (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) finished just two strokes away from earning All-Tournament (top-10) honors, recording a 225 (73-78-74) total to finish in 12th place. It's his second top-20 finish in his three appearances in the MIAC meet, after finishing 19th in 2015.
•
Levi Hauser (FY, Raymond, Minn./Willmar HS) finished in a tie for 21st place, claiming a 239 (75-77-78) total in his first conference meet.
•
Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) finished in 45th place with a 248 (82-83-83), competing in his first MIAC tournament.

JORDAN, Minn. -- The Augsburg University men's golf team held serve on Sunday, remaining in second place after the second round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Ridges at Sand Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Brett Buckingham (SO, Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) now stands just a stroke out of first place, sitting in a tie for third place with a two-day, 36-hole total of 147 (71-76). Alec Aunan of Gustavus and Shane Sienko of St. Thomas share the lead with scores of 146.
•
Harrison Cooper (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) is just four strokes back of the leaders, in a tie for 10th place with a 150 (73-77) total.
•
Dakota Krech (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS), competing in his third MIAC championship meet, stands in 12th place with a 151 (73-78) total.
•
Levi Hauser (FY, Raymond, Minn./Willmar HS) moved up five spots in the individual standings, now sitting in a tie for 13th place with a 152 (75-77) total.
•
Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) is in a tie for 42nd place in the competition, with a 165 (82-83) total.
• As a team, Augsburg stands in second place with a 600 team score, after shooting a second-round 308. The Auggies lost just two strokes on Sunday to leader St. Thomas, which shot a second-round 306 to lead by 11 strokes with a 589 total. Saint John's stands in third place with a 605 team score. Sunday's second round included a delay due to rain that came through the southern metro area.
• The final round will be held on Monday (10/2). Tee times will be determined after a coaches meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, due to the potential for rain in the forecast.

Brett Buckingham (SO, Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) shot a 1-under-par 71 to stand in third place in the field, standing two shots behind leader Pete Sienko of St. Thomas, who shot an opening-round 4-under-par 68.

Dakota Krech (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and
Harrison Cooper (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) each shot a 1-over-par 73 to stand in a tie for fifth place.

Levi Hauser (FY, Raymond, Minn./Willmar HS) shot a 3-over-par 75 to stand in a tie for 18th place, while
Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) shot an 82 to round out the Auggie field.
• As a team, Augsburg stands in second place with a 4-over-par 292 team score, nine strokes behind leader St. Thomas, which shot a 5-under-par 283. Saint John's stands in third place with an 8-over-par 296 team score.
• Augsburg's tee times in Sunday's (10/1) second round begin at 11:20 a.m.
The Augsburg University men's golf team will compete at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, to be held this Saturday to Monday (9/30-10/2) at the
Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn.
Tee times on Saturday for the Auggie men will start at 11:40 a.m. Tee times on Sunday and Monday are based on team standings, with times starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. on Monday.
As a team, Augsburg enters the championships with the
second-best stroke average among MIAC teams, with a 300.5 average, just one stroke behind league-leader St. Thomas' 299.5. However, the top six teams in the MIAC are within 7.7 strokes of each other, which means a competitive championship may be on tap for this weekend.
