Strong fourth quarter spurs Auggies past Knights

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team shot an impressive 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the floor in the fourth quarter, en route to claiming another important Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory, a 72-68 win at Carleton College on Wednesday evening.

RECORDS: Augsburg 10-7 overall (6-5 MIAC), Carleton 7-11 overall (4-7 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After trailing 32-24 at the half, Augsburg outscored Carleton 20-10 in the third quarter, then used an impressive 71.4-percent shooting effort in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
• Augsburg was led by the duo of Camryn Speese (SO, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) and Tamira McLemore (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS). Speese finished 6-of-7 from the floor for 14 points, while adding six rebounds, and a pair of assists and steals. McLemore also finished with 14 points and six rebounds, including a 5-for-5 performance from the free-throw line.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies were K'Aezha Wubben (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Arianna Jones (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), who finished with 10 points apiece.
• Jazmyn Solseth (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) provided a nice spark for the Auggies, finishing 4-for-5 from the field, while pulling down five boards and adding an Auggie career-high three blocked shots.
• For the game, Augsburg connected on 45.0 percent (27-of-60) from the field, while Carleton hit 41.2 percent (28-of-68) of its shot attempts. 
• Carleton claimed a 41-32 advantage on the boards, but Augsburg was able to outscore the Knights 17-8 in points off turnovers and was able to hit 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, while Carleton was only able to convert on 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

 FOR THE FOES
• Five Knights finished in double figures for Carleton, led by 19 points from Katie Chavez.
• Cece Leone and Anne Hamilton both posted double-doubles for Carleton. Leone finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Hamilton put up 10 points and 10 rebounds.

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (1/27) traveling to Winona, Minn. to take on Saint Mary's University in a key MIAC matchup.
• Carleton also returns to action on Saturday (1/27) hosting St. Catherine University a 3 p.m.
