WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT AUGSBURG (FAN PARKING)

Parking is generally available on the city streets around the Augsburg campus. On-street parking on Riverside Avenue is metered 24 hours a day; street parking elsewhere around campus is posted for one- , two- or four-hour limits. Pay close attention to the signs where you park, as the streets around campus are frequently patrolled by the city traffic squads.

Lots on the Augsburg campus are reserved 24 hours a day for permit-holders only (check the signs at the lot entrance), though some general parking lots (like Lot L at the intersection of Butler Place and 25th Avenue South on the campus map) are open for game events on weekday evenings and non-Weekend College (Augsburg for Adults) weekends. Check with the Augsburg Public Safety department at 612-330-1717 for parking information and special parking permits.

On-campus parking is extremely limited on Weekend College (Augsburg for Adults) weekends, especially events on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons, as the lots, including Lot L, are reserved for permit-holders. Attendants will be on-site at the entrance to Lot L on Weekend College Friday evenings and Saturday mornings/afternoons to ensure that parking is available for Weekend College students, faculty and staff, and parking fees may be charged for access to the lot by non-permit-holders. Also, on Weekend College weekends, non-permit-holding visitors parking in any other campus lots will be ticketed.

Pay parking for Friday evening and weekend events are available in the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview "Yellow" Ramp, off of 23rd Avenue South, north of Riverside Avenue -- roughly a two-block walk to the Augsburg athletic facilities. There are no in-out privileges at the Fairview lots/ramps. The ramp is often the best alternative to avoiding the parking crunch of on-street parking on gamedays. University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview Riverside map is also available online in PDF format.

Parking in the Fairview "Red Ramp" along Riverside Avenue is not allowed for athletic events, as that ramp is exclusively for use by the hospital. Also, parking in the "Yellow Ramp" for Augsburg events is not allowed during weekdays.

Hourly rates for Yellow Ramp on Saturdays/Sundays or special events: $2 for 0-to-1/2 hour; $4 for 1/2-to-1 1/2 hours; $5 for 1 1/2-to-2 hours; $6 for 2-to-3 1/2 hours; $7 for 3 1/2-to-5 hours; $8 for 5-to-6 hours; $9 for 6-to-7 hours; $10 for 7-to-24 hours.

Hourly rates for Yellow Ramp (non-validated parking on Friday): $3 for 0-to-1/2 hour; $6 for 1/2-to-1 1/2 hours; $8 for 1 1/2-to-2 hours; $15 for 2-to-3 1/2 hours; $20 for 3 1/2-to-5 hours; $22 for 5-to-6 hours; $24 for 6-to-7 hours; $30 for 7-to-24 hours.

Yellow Ramp hours -- Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday: automated (no attendant).

For people attending Augsburg events during weekday afternoons, please request a visitor pass from the Augsburg Department of Public Safety. DPS office is located in the Urness/Mortensen Hall lobby.

ADMISSION/TICKETS/FAN SEATING

Nearly all sports at Augsburg charge admission -- $7 for adults and $3 for students (all children under 18 and college students with ID); Baseball (at Parade Stadium) and cross country (at Riverside Park) do not charge admission. Augsburg faculty, staff and students (with ID) are admitted free to all Augsburg regular-season athletic events. Augsburg A-Club, NCAA, MIAC and Minnesota High School Coaches Association passes are accepted at the door.

There are no advance ticket sales for Augsburg regular-season athletic events; all tickets are available at the door and are general admission.

Postseason athletic events (MIAC/NCAA) held at Augsburg have different admission policies, the most important being that ALL individuals, including Augsburg faculty, staff and students, must pay for admission, and most passes are not accepted (depending on tournament policy). Ticket prices for postseason events will be announced and available on the web before the event.

Visiting fan seating at Edor Nelson Field for football and men's/women's soccer is on the east bleachers. For softball, there is no designated visiting fan seating area. No fan seating is allowed along the right-field line between the visitor bench and the outfield fence or along the left-field line; all softball fans must sit in the bleachers.

Visiting fan seating at Augsburg Ice Arena for men's/women's hockey is on the north end of the bleachers (the area closest to the main entrance).

Visiting fan seating at Si Melby Hall for men's/women's basketball and wrestling is directly behind the visiting team bench on the northeast end of the arena. For volleyball, visiting fan seating is on the southeast end of the arena.

LOCKER ROOMS

For events at Si Melby Hall/Edor Nelson Field: Locker rooms are available two hours before game time, at halftime and after the game for showers in the Si Melby Hall/Kennedy Center complex. A locker room will be assigned to you by an Augsburg representative. You will be issued a fob key for access to the locker rooms. Locker rooms will be secured; however, please be responsible for your own valuables. Bring your own locks, as the locker rooms are accessible to anyone who has the appropriate fob key for the locker room. Towels will NOT be provided. A table for taping (bring your own athletic tape and other athletic training supplies) and a whiteboard will be available in the locker room.

For men's/women's hockey at Augsburg Ice Arena: A visitor's locker room is available inside the Augsburg Ice Arena, in the northwest corner of the main rink ("Rink A"). The locker room will be available two hours before game time, between periods, and after the game for showers. Locker rooms will be secured (lock and key provided by the site manager); however, please be responsible for your own valuables (bring your own locks). Towels will NOT be provided. A table for taping (bring your own athletic tape and other athletic training supplies) and a chalkboard will be available in the locker room. You are responsible for your own hockey-specific equipment (skate sharpeners, heat guns, etc.). Because of the tight confines in and around the locker room area, access is restricted to players and coaches only. Please note that because of limited locker room space in the Augsburg Ice Arena, this policy may be changed for specific games (especially men's/women's hockey doubleheaders). Check before you arrive for specific locker room assignments.

There are no locker rooms available at Parade Stadium (baseball). Visiting teams are welcome to use the Si Melby Hall/Kennedy Center locker room; contact Augsburg athletic staff or the baseball coach for details.

For events at Edor Nelson Field (football/men's and women's soccer/softball): Teams are reminded that metal cleats are PROHIBITED from being used on the field. Also, sunflower seeds and chewing gum are PROHIBITED.

AUGGIE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about Augsburg Auggie Athletics. If you have a question that you think should be answered in this space, feel free to e-mail Don Stoner, sports information director, at stoner@augsburg.edu.

What is an Auggie?
That's one of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Augsburg College history is not clear on the subject of when the term "Auggies" was first used to refer to college athletic team, or who first coined the term. The first usages of the term appear in the college's yearbook (the Augsburgian) and the student newspaper (the Echo) in the mid-1920s, shortly after intercollegiate athletics started at Augsburg.

As is the case with many of our sister schools in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the nickname "Auggies" appears to be an extension of the school name; much like the St. John's "Johnnies," St. Thomas "Tommies," St. Olaf "Oles," Gustavus Adolphus "Gusties" and the Carleton "Carls" (formerly the nickname of women's sports teams at Carleton). Note that the team's nickname is AUGGIES, not AGGIES. Texas A&M and a handful of other schools use AGGIES as the nickname for their athletic teams.

The eagle has often been associated with Auggie athletic teams -- since a baby eagle is often referred to as an "Auggie." Augsburg has used different eagle designs for athletic logos through the years. The current Auggie Eagle athletic logo was designed by Augsburg alumnus and former student-athlete Sammy Gross '03, and was made the official athletic logo in 2005 (it had actually been used since 2002, but made official in 2005).

My team/organization wants to use Augsburg athletic facilities for an event. How do we reserve the facilities?
All on-campus athletic facilities can be reserved for special events or for community athletic teams to practice or play games. For more information and rental fees, contact Augsburg's Athletic Facilities department: call or e-mail Kris Connell (e-mail connell@augsburg.edu) at (612) 330-1504. Please do not contact the Sports Information department with questions regarding athletic facility availability or schedules for non-Augsburg athletic events.

How much does it cost to attend an Auggie athletic event?
Tickets to Augsburg athletic events are one of the best values in the Twin Cities. Admission to most athletic events is $7 for adults and $3 for students. Some sports even offer free admission! And if you're an Augsburg College student, faculty or staff member, admission is free to all regular-season home athletic events! (There are certain exclusions, like MIAC and NCAA playoff events held at Augsburg, where everyone must pay for admission).

What is the Augsburg school song?
The Auggie War Song is the school song. Listen to it by clicking here.
Lyrics:
We'll sing the Auggie War Song,
We'll shout the battle cry,
We'll fight the Auggie battles,
Auggies ever, do or die!

And in the glow of the victory firelight,
History cannot deny,
To add a page or two,
To the Auggie Fighting Crew,
Beneath the Minnesota sky!

A-U-G-G-I-E-S
AUGGIES! (What?) AUGGIES! (What?)
GO--FIGHT--WIN!
