Berg was a two-sport letterwinner during his collegiate career, playing on the Augsburg football and basketball teams. On the gridiron, Berg was a four-year starter for the Auggies at tight end, where he caught 134 passes for 1,423 yards and six touchdowns in his career. He was on the school’s top-five record list in receptions and yardage until the 1990s. On the basketball court, Berg was a two-year starter for the Auggies as a forward. During his basketball career, the Auggies captured the 1964-65 MIAC championship and advanced to the NAIA national tournament. Following his playing career at Augsburg, Berg was drafted into the Canadian Football League, but a shoulder injury eventually ended his playing career. After his professional playing career ended, Berg later earned a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Southern Illinois University. Berg has spent the better part of his professional life teaching and working for colleges and universities all over the world, including Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. He is currently serving as Vice President and Director of the Maryland University College-Europe. A hard worker and good leader as remembered by his teammates, Berg currently resides in Heidelberg, Germany.
