Haight Swanberg was an outstanding athlete in two sports at Augsburg – softball and women’s basketball. In softball, she earned All-MIAC honors three times and earned NFCA All-Region and All-American honors her senior season as a catcher. She was team captain two years. She still holds the school record for career walks (63), and ranks sixth all-time with a .362 career batting average. Her 119 career hits are 10th-best in school history, and her 18 career sacrifices are seventh-best. Defensively, she ranks third in career putouts (590) and her .982 fielding percentage is the fourth-best in school history. In basketball, Haight earned All-MIAC honors her junior and senior seasons, was a two-year captain and ended her career with 979 career points and 538 career rebounds. She earned Academic All-MIAC honors twice in both basketball and softball, and earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in softball her senior season. She was named an Augsburg Honor Athlete in 1991. She graduated with a major in education and minor in coaching. She started her career in Warren, Minnesota, as a teacher and coach, and then moved to St. Cloud Apollo High School, where she taught social studies and served as head coach for volleyball, basketball, and softball in her career. She has served as a section representative in basketball, ran the Minnesota Girls’ Basketball All-Star Series, and served as advisor for the school’s Students Against Drunk Driving chapter, as well as served on the school’s Hall of Fame committee. In 2005, Haight Swanberg was named activities director at St. Cloud Tech High School, where she oversees all sports and activities. She and her husband, Craig, have four children – Carissa, Kasey, Callie, and Emily, and live in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
